While I like the idea of making it easier for people to pass their classes, I feel like six general posts around Hogwarts would defeat the purpose of having an actual system for classes. I understand that they can still give you extra House Points but even then, I don’t think that’s enough incentive to keep people from doing classes. I also understand that the admin team wants this term to be ‘The Hogwarts Experience,’ and part of that experience is taking classes.
Removing the need to actually participate in these classes would be counterintuitive to what the admin team wants to happen. I think that not being required to take any would actually have the opposite effect to engagement, it would kill what class participation is already existing entirely.
And this might be personally motivated on my end because I absolutely love posting in classes, but I like the idea of an actual system for what grade my character gets. Not everyone can get 26 OWLs or NEWTs, and having people reach a required threshold to claim that their character would be able to get X or Y grade engages me enough to actually want to post more, as it makes me work harder for the sort of character I want.
I’m inclined to keep the system as is. I admittedly need more time to think of suggestions, but I’ll tentatively support shifting to this system if we can think of other personal incentives for characters to actually take classes. Off the top of my head, one could think of ‘asynchronous’ or synchronous lessons. Maybe make Lesson RP threads optional, and instead make ‘extra credits’ style lessons where it’s a simple homework essay or whatever characters need to do, and doing one would be enough to pass a single class This would make it easier for people to reach that three post requirement to pass, and Professors won’t have to commit to doing threads unless they want to or are able to. Keep the grades threshold as it currently is, and maybe award a significant number of House points to the House (or character,) that made the most class posts/contribution per term.
