RULES AND GUIDELINES
[PTabbedContent]
[PTab=General Rules]
If you believe any member of this site is to believe breaking any of the rules and wish to make it known please PM a member of staff detailing the situation.
I.First and foremost is Respect. Please respect every member that is on here, no matter who they are or where they come from. Please treat everyone equally. II.Communication. It is very important to communicate with your RP partners when making decisions that might affect them IE: deleting a character, ending a relationship, drastic changes to characters that could affect the relationship or move on from plots. Please be transparent about your intentions so no one develops hurt feelings. III.Do not steal, images, or content made by members from this site. If you aren't sure, ask them. We do not own anything that is HP canon, but anything original or member-made requires permission. IV.Please try to interact with everyone, not just a few people, we want everyone to feel welcome. V.No OOC drama. This includes on site, in the cbox and the discord. This means no bullying people into plots. No manipulating people into feeling guilty for wanting to remove characters or drop plots they aren’t feeling. Remembering that tone and intent and language barriers can sometimes be misleading so don’t be taking everything to heart. Don’t push controversial topics like politics or religion and if someone asks you to edit something because it makes them uncomfortable, just do it. VI.No spamming mass threads or post padding. Spamming mass threads means when 1-2 people take over a mass thread and do not leave room for other people to reply by spamming back to back within a short period of time (IE: 1-2 days). Post Padding means posting back to back with yourself to get you post count up. VII.No God-Modding without permission and that permission must be indicated. God-Modding is the act of knowing something about another character that yours should not and implementing that knowledge into your RP and/or doing something to another person's character without their permission or chance to react to said action
EX: "I grabbed Remy's hand and threw him into the bushes." - is an act of Godmodding because Remy has not had a chance to react to my actions. The correct way to write this would be: "I grabbed Remy's hand and attempted to throw him into the bushes." - this means that while I am doing this, Remy has a chance to resist and I'm not just taking control of him. VIII.No Metagaming:
"Metagaming is a term used in role-playing games, which describes a player's use of real-life knowledge concerning the state of the game to determine their character's actions, when said character has no relevant knowledge or awareness under the circumstances." IX.Proboards is an English site and rated for people 13 years or older (PG-13). This means parental guidance is required as some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
All posts must be written in English (or have an immediate translation following) and must comply with the PG-13 guidelines. Strong language (curses and vulgar terms) must be minimal. There will be no use of weapons or weapon violence (guns, knives, etc.), only wands and hand to hand combat. Alcohol is permitted at a minimum and only by those of age. Drugs are not allowed. Smoking is okay. Minimal violence will be permitted as long as it is gently displayed as to not offend or harm viewers. Sexual content must be fade to black or use the famous “black curtain” developed by Dean Stewart/Lou on HOS.
If you are unsure, don’t write it or ask an admin for advice before going forward. X.INH has an IC discord for members to try out characters prior to making them on site, to explore new relationships prior to threading with someone onsite, to speed through small plots that don’t necessarily need a thread because of how short the interactions are, and/or to RP adult themes. Ask an admin about this and they can point you in the right direction to getting the link. You must be 18+ to access the NSFW section of this discord. XI.All images will be restricted to PG-13. Please make sure that they are suitable images. ##INFO HERE ##INFO HERE
[PTab=Clean Outs]
CLEAN OUTS: CHARACTERS:
I.
Characters are considered active and safe from activity checks done by admins as long as they have posted THREE times each quarter. II.
Clean outs are completed each quarter at the end of MARCH, JUNE, SEPTEMBER and DECEMBER. III.
It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you have met the required 3 post minimum each quarter. Staff will NOT be warning you of upcoming clean outs. IV.
Any character that has not met the requirements will be unsorted. You can always re-apply following the most recent character creation rules. V.
Characters made within 3 weeks of the clean out date will be exempt from the clean outs. VI.
An absence thread posted prior to the scheduled clean out will protect your characters as long as it’s a true absence. This means you must be GONE and you cannot post during the dates you have indicated. Any character you post with while “gone” will NOT be protected by your absence and you MUST meet the required 3 minimum posts to be safe from clean outs. VII.
You cannot use an absence through multiple clean out quarters. IV.info goes here
CLEAN OUTS: ABILITIES/CREATURES:
I.
Creature/abilities will be cleaned out at the same time as character clean outs occur (MARCH, JUNE, SEPT, DEC). II.
In order to be deemed safe during clean outs, you MUST mention/use your abilities by including the actual word in your post: werewolf, veela, metamorphmagus, etc so that admins can easily check this. III.
Failure to mention and/or use your abilities will result in loss of your creature or ability status and you can no longer RP as having this ability. IV.
Admins will NOT be reading entire posts to look for use of abilities and creature mentions therefore you MUST use the word in your post. V.
If you lose your ability or creature status, you can re-apply for it up to 3 times before you are banned from having it for that creature. The reason for this is that this ability/creature status should be an integral part of your characters existence and if you are not utilizing it regularly, it must not be that important. VI.
An absence thread posted prior to the scheduled clean out will protect your creature/abilities the same as characters.
CLEAN OUTS: ACCOUNT DELETIONS:
I.
Unsorted accounts with 0 posts will be deleted after 3 months of their last login date. II.
Unsorted accounts with 1-50 posts will be deleted after six months of their last login date. III.
Unsorted accounts with 50+ posts will be deleted after 1 year of their last login date. IV.
If you have been requested to leave the site or have been banned, your accounts will be deleted by admins if you do not delete them yourself. V.
If you leave on your own accord for whatever reason (another member was banned, etc) your accounts will be deleted within a week of your departure provided staff are aware of your departure. VI.
If you leave the site without issues or reason and simply "poof" regular deletion rules apply. VII.If you opt to get rid of a character, you may delete them of your own accord or you may request to have the character unsorted and reuse the account for something else. If you delete or unsort a character, you must wait 1 month before you can re-create that character. Deleting the account and recreating it under the same name does not annul this process. All regular rules apply to any unsorted accounts you might have. VIII.
THREAD ARCHIVING!
Threads of accounts that have been shelved or deleted will be moved into the archive board. Additionally, roleplay threads that haven't been responded to for 2 months will be archived as well. If you'd like to continue in said thread please contact an admin to retrieve it.
[PTab=Character Creation]
In order to create your character, please fill out the application, located HERE, and post it in a new thread titled with your character name. All characters are to be on their own accounts. One account per character.
I.If you want to get rid of a character, consider unsorting them as opposed to deleting them. Once you have unsorted a character, you must wait a month before re-apping them. All regular clean out rules apply to unsorted accounts.
If you delete or shelve a character, you must wait 1 month before you can re-create them. Deleting the account and recreating it under the same name does not annul this process. Making changes to the same character, i.e an earlier or later stage in life, also does not make a difference in this process. A character deleted or shelved is a character deleted or shelved and you must abide by the 1-month waiting rule. II.You may have as many characters as you can handle, however, once you reach 6 there is an activity check and post count per account required in your application to prove you are actively playing with your current characters before a new one will be accepted. III.0 to 5 characters:
No waiting period or any activity requirement. IV.6 to 10 characters:
One week since your last created character. Need one direct roleplay link post from the past two weeks. Need 25 posts per active character account. V.11 to 15 characters:
Two weeks since your last created character. Need two direct roleplay link posts from the past two weeks. Need 50 posts per active character account. VI.16+ characters:
Two weeks since your last created character. Need two direct roleplay link posts from the past two weeks. Need 75 posts per active character account. VII.Canons are available. Members are allowed to make OC's related to canons but there are some rules in place. See the canon list, HERE, for more information. VIII.Your OCs are your own. If you wish to kill them, that is your decision. No one will limit you or prevent you from doing as you please with your OC. It is important that no member shames other members when they delete a character. We recommend communicating with the members you have plots with when deciding if you are going to delete someone. However, in terms of Canon characters, please discuss with staff if you no longer wish to play a canon character. Do not just kill off your canon character. IX.You can be a Vampire, Werewolf, Animagus, Seer, Metamorphmagus, Veela, etc. please see the list of the creatures that are available. XINFO GOES HERE
[PTab=Making a Professor]
Members are allowed to make a max of 2 Professors on-site, per school, and claim a class to teach at any of the schools available. Professors must be 22 years of age. Professors will be moderators of their own class boards therefore able to sticky, lock, edit and generally moderate threads in their boards. There are specific criteria involved when creating a Professor.
Professors of Foreign Schools who have active students must post 1 lesson for the term to give students the opportunity to complete class posts.
I.Professors are required to post lessons for the class they teach. How they run their lessons is at the discretion of the Professor, however, there are options available. Option 1: Professors may choose to write up a "lecture" and assign homework in a Questions and Answers format for the students to complete. You will award house points for the completion of these homework assignments. This should only take students approximately ten minutes to complete as this is meant for fun. There will be a minimum of 5 questions per homework assignment. For every 5 questions answered, the student will receive up to 10 house points, and 1 class credit to pass. This means ideally, a student could answer 15 questions in 1 class in order to pass the term.
Option 2: Professors may do an RP class. You must be actively participating in this class. You may reward house points for students who answer questions correctly. You may also deduct points from students who are breaking the classroom rules IE: being disruptive, failing to do homework, etc. Class RPs may include things such as lessons, field trips, assignments, etc. Get creative and have fun.
Extra Credit: Professors may also include any extra credit assignments they see fit for the go-getters in their class who want those house points. These will also count towards class posts but are not mandatory to complete if the student has already posted in the RP lesson or done the assigned homework for a lecture class. II.Professors are required to post a minimum of 2 lesson per group depending on which classes they teach. IE: If you teach a mandatory class such as Potions, you are required to post a minimum of 6 lessons, 2 for each group. However, if you teach an elective class you need a minimum of 4 classes unless you are teaching an elective that students can only take in their final years. Lessons are to be grouped as:You may post up to 5 additional lessons for each year group you teach if your desire.
Years 1 and 2
Years 3, 4, and 5
Years 6 and 7 III.Professors are expected to post lessons within the first 1 month (RL) of the term starting. If your lessons are not up by then you will be removed from your position.
Professors must participate in their active class lessons by posting a min of once per month. IV.Professors are required to post a sign-up thread in their class and manage it throughout the term. Students can earn points for signing up for classes: 1st/2nd Years: 5 points
3rd/4th/5th Years: 10 points
6th/7th Years: 15 points V.Professors will lock their classrooms a week before term ends in order to finalize their pass and post count lists. VI.Awarding/Deducting House Points 1. Class Sign Ups - 5 HP for 1-2 years, 10 HP for 3-5 years, 15 HP for 6-7 years
2. Answering questions in class - 5 HP
3. Completing Homework Assignments - 2 HP per question Max. 10 HP per 5 questions
4. 5 HP can be deducted for students misbehaving in classes
5. Top Student (who posted the most) earns 30 HP VII.Grading: We have developed a grading system which will help students in determining the grades they received in classes for when they graduate for their NEWTs to get a job, and for personal biographies. These grades are based on overall posting in all classes. Troll: 0 posts
Dreadful: 1 post
Poor: 2 posts
Acceptable: 3 posts
Exceeds Expectations: 5-7 posts
Outstanding: 8-10 posts or more VIII.Under 22 but want to teach? No Problem! Characters who are under 22 by legal adults and no longer in school can apply for Intern Professor Positions. This means that your character will work under a Professor until they are 22 and then can apply for an open Professor position. This gives your character workplace experience. Sign up in the job registry.

This will lessen the amount of training they will require after they graduate. EX: Auror training is 3 years, however, if you take an Internship at the Auror office you may have a shortened training period of 2 years instead of 3.
[PTab=Quidditch]
All the Quidditch games are played on Saturdays and will be posted around 10 AM EST. The game will remain open for 3,5 hours total. Feel free to PM an admin if you have any questions!
QUIDDITCH MATCH DATES: IRL date - IC date - teams playing
Jan 21 - S/G (Oct)
Feb 11 - R/H (Nov)
Mar 18 - S/R (Feb)
Apr 15 - G/H (Mar)
Apr 29 - R/G (Apr)
May 20 - H/S (June)
GENERAL GAME PLAY:
I.When signing up, please limit yourself to 2 players so everyone gets a chance. Sign-ups are located HERE II.The game will only begin when there's a member from each team present on the field. Once this occurs, the game moderator will post, releasing the Quaffle and Bludgers. Please assume all players listed are present even if they have not posted yet. III.The game will open Saturday morning at 10 AM (EST) and remain open until Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM EST. The game will last 3.5 hours. IV.All posts must include quidditch-related words to be counted for points and must be a minimum of three sentences to count. V.You may not double-post. A mod post does not count as a post and is only there for moderation purposes. VI.In the event that there are not enough players present to play members of the site who have a character in that house may be asked to step in and play for the team with missing players. VII.You cannot evade a bludger being shot at you by a beater on your own, otherwise, there is no point in having beaters. VIII.Scoring of the game will include posts made by the players, goals scored and catching the golden snitch. Each post is worth 5 points, goals are worth 10 points and catching the snitch is worth 150 points. The more your team posts, the more points you will earn for a chance to win. IX.Please ensure you are tagging each other to give everyone equal opportunity to save themselves from bludgers, save goals and catch the snitch. X.Please include an OOC Note such as "Bludger at Remy" so it is easier for the Moderator to follow what is happening.
POSITIONS INFORMATION & RULES:
BEATERS:
I.Only beaters can wield a beater's bat. Any player who takes a beater's bat will be disqualified from the game. II.A bludger can only be hit at another player once per page, and cannot be hit at a player who is not in play (they have not posted in the thread). This means each beater gets 1 chance per page to knock out a player. However, in the event there is only 1 beater in play, that beater may take the missing beater's hit meaning you get 2 chances per page. III.When a bludger is coming at a teammate, you have 30 minutes from the post of the beater hitting it towards your teammate in order to save them otherwise it is an automatic hit. Beaters, please tag the game moderator, the other beaters in play and the character you are hitting the bludger at so everyone has a fair chance of responding.
CHASERS:
I.Only chasers and keepers can touch the quaffle. Any other players who touch the quaffle will be disqualified from the game. II.A goal can only be scored once per page. III.When a Quaffle is shot, the Keeper has 30 minutes from the post of the Chaser shooting it in order to save the Quaffle. If the Keeper does not post within that hour, it is an automatic goal. Chasers, please tag the game moderator when you shoot the Quaffle. IV.Should the Chaser in possession go inactive, the Quaffle goes back into play 30 minutes after that Chaser's last post.
KEEPERS:
I.Only chasers and keepers can touch the quaffle. Any other players who touch the quaffle will be disqualified from the game. II.A goal can only be scored once per page. III.When a Quaffle is shot, the Keeper has 30 minutes from the post of the Chaser shooting it in order to save the Quaffle. If the Keeper does not post within those 30 minutes, it is an automatic goal. Chasers, please tag the game moderator when you shoot the Quaffle.
SEEKERS:
I.Only the seeker may catch the snitch. Any other player who attempts will be disqualified from the game. II.The snitch will be released during the last 30 minutes of the game. III.When the snitch is released you have a 3, 2, 1 countdown before you catch the snitch. This means your first post spotting the snitch is 3. Your second post chasing after the snitch is 2. Your final post catching the snitch is 1. The first seeker to reach 1 is the seeker who catches the snitch.
[PTab=Prefects]
OOC GUIDELINES:
I.Characters for positions are selected by the staff. There's no application. II.Members must be in good standing on the site. No complaints, no warnings, and no disciplinary action were taken against them. III.Members must be active on the site by role-playing. Game spamming and OOC stuff do not count. IV.If there aren't enough active members to fulfil a Prefect position, the role may be given to a member of the same sex. This means there could be 2 female prefects or 2 male prefects in one house based on character availability. V.There is a limit of 2 Prefect positions per member. There will sometimes be an exception if no one else is a candidate for positions. The same goes for Quidditch Captains. VI.Please ensure you are on the member list with all your active characters.
IC GUIDELINES:
I.The character must not be a known rule breaker. II.The character must uphold the rules of Hogwarts and ensure others are accountable for their actions. III.The character will be required to report all rule-breaking to a Professor. IV.The character will be responsible for assisting in nighttime patrol up until 9 pm.
GIVING/TAKING POINTS:
I.A prefect is allowed to award 5 points for good behaviour and remove 5 points for poor behaviour. II.Anything more than 5 points must be approved by the Head of House first. III.Any IC rule-breaking by Prefects, Head Boy or Head Girl will result in a warning. Up to 3 offences will result in immediate removal of status and duties. These 3 offences are accumulative, meaning all offences from year 5 to year 7 are considered.
[PTab=Restrictions]
There will be restrictions on many magical items in this world. This is to avoid Gary-sues and Mary-sues
Apparition: Only 7th years and above may do this 6th year will have a class on this.
The Deathly Hallows: These are lost to time, you may seek them out but will not find them.
The Marauders Map: This is lost to time and may not be re-created or used.
The Horcruxes: No one will be able to create one.
Parseltongue: This is no longer a part of the world it has now died out.
Resurrection: No one can bring anyone back.
Unicorn Blood: This is forbidden by the Ministry and highly dangerous.
[PTab=Groups and Mass Threads]
Group Thread Guidelines: (3-4 people):
I.Keep to a posting order II.If you can't guarantee activity in a timely manner, don't participate in group threads to avoid holding others back
Mass Thread Guidelines: (4+ people)
I.PLEASE READ ALL POSTS BEFORE REPLYING TO MASS THREADS. II.When replying to mass threads, please look for characters already involved in the thread who are "open" as in currently not interacting with anyone, and interact with them before posting your character as open and looking for someone to interact with (I see this a lot in class threads). III.Mass threads do not count for extra house points. IV.Mass threads are not to be used for back-to-back posting for personal plot gain. V.Members should not take over the thread by posting back-to-back with their characters unless the mass thread has died. Back to back posting means Sally posts, Johnny posts, Sally posts, and Johnny posts without letting others post in between. VI.In the event, that something happens in a mass thread (ex: When Leo punched Elliott for forcing him to stop kissing Eleanor) the only people who should get involved are those who should be involved (ex: Elliott, Leo, Eleanor). If it does not make sense for your character to get involved, don't. A small reaction to something is fine but do not dwell on it. VII.in the event, something dramatic has happened in a mass thread but you have not yet posted in the thread, or the thread has moved on/the issue has been resolved, please do not bring it up in your post. VIII.Remember that unless your character is an occlumens or legilimens, you cannot read minds and therefore do not know what is going on in other people's minds, therefore, should not have opinions on other character's thoughts. IX.Only respond to the speech made by characters, not the character's thoughts. X.Do NOT get involved in drama without consent from those who own the drama.

[PTab=Discipline]
OOC Discipline Guidelines:
In regards to ensuring the rules are followed, we have developed some basic disciplinary measures that will be used to guide staff in these matters, and so that members are aware of the repercussions of their actions.
We will be utilizing a strike system where any rule-breaking or problem-causing will earn the member(s) involved a strike. This will be tracked by admins. This will be confidential and only staff members will have access to this. As members, you can request to know where you stand on the list at any time if you are concerned.
Strike 1: First Offence - you will be given a warning.
Strike 2: Second Offence - you will receive interventions from the staff members on how to improve/avoid further conflict.
Strike 3: Third Offence - you will be asked to take a break from the site for a set amount (determined by the staff member dealing with the situation) in order to regroup and come back in a better frame of mind.
Strike 4: Final Offence - if you reach this point, you will be asked to leave the site permanently and your IP address will be banned.

What Happens When A Student is Expelled?Expulsion has a new strike system depending on what you have been expelled for.
Proven, with intent, death or severe injury of another student or staff member is immediate expulsion from the school and your wand is broken, therefore you will not get to complete your education and will be forced to live life as a Squib.
Proven, without intent, death or severe injury of another student or staff member is immediate expulsion from your school and your original wand will be broken. You may have a second chance at another school with the purchase of a new wand. Any further rule breaking or incidents and you will be expelled from the new school and your wand broken depending on the severity of the reason you have been expelled.
Expulsion for any other reason that does not involve the death or serious injury of another student or staff member will result in you being allowed a second chance at another school, and you may keep your wand. However, further rule-breaking and expulsion from that school will place you into the new program at the Ministry: Department of Magical Education: Underaged Witches and Wizards Rehabilitation Program. Failure to complete this program will result in losing your wand.
VampiresVampires are not permitted to feed on another student or staff member regardless of consent and/or intent. There is blood supplied to the school therefore no vampire on Hogwarts premises should go without. This goes for other schools as well.
If a vampire is caught feeding off another student and/or staff member the vampire in question will be deducted 50HPs and receive a week's worth of detention.
If a vampire is found to have sired another student and/or vampire they will be expelled from Hogwarts (or their respective school).
Newly-made vampires at Hogwarts (or respective schools) will undergo mind reading by experienced legilimens to determine who sired them.
WerewolvesAny werewolf who resides at Hogwarts is mandated to go to Moonacre Sanctuary during the full moon. A werewolf residing at another school is mandated to go to that school's allotted safe haven.
If a werewolf neglects to go to Moonacre (or their school's allotted safe haven) the werewolf in question will be deducted 50HPs and receive a week's worth of detention.
If a werewolf is found to have sired another student and/or staff member they will be expelled from Hogwarts (or their respective school).
Newly-made werewolves at Hogwarts (or respective schools) will undergo mind reading by experienced legilimens to determine who sired them.
[PTab=Events]
OOC Events Guidelines
INH hosts a variety of different events throughout the year including Balls, with royalty awards, festivals such as the Hogsmeade Summer Festival, Duelling Competitions, Speed Dating, and various other mass threads (see mass threads rules for more details) for members to participate in. However, there are some generic and event specific rules that need to be followed.
Events are open to everyone on site and more details about specific events will be given when events open. Announcements will be made as events come and go.
Some events will require members to be active participants therefore signing up willy nilly is not encouraged unless you know you can meet the requirements IE: Speed Dating requires a minimum of 2 posts per week the speed dates are open.
Duelling:
I.There will be 3 sectors in which characters can compete in. 11 - 14 Years Old, 15 - 18 Years Old and the 19+. This has been decided to give everyone a chance to participate and to keep it as fair as possible. II.11 - 14 Year Olds: You will be allotted to use spells from Year 1 to Year 4 regardless of what year you are in to make it fair (although it's not super realistic). III.15 - 18 Year Olds: You will be allotted to use all spells taught from Year 1 to Year 7 regardless of what year you are in to make it fair (although it's not super realistic). IV.19+: You are free to use any spell listed or not listed on site as long as you write what the spell does and it is canon to HP. V.You may only use spells your character would know IE: If you are an upcoming fifth year you can only use spells from years 1-4 unless stated otherwise in the specific event criteria. VI.Your first duelling partner will be selected randomly. After that the pairings will be selected based on who wins. EX: If Remy wins, he will move on to the next round and will have to wait until another duel wraps up to determine who his opponent will be. It will be important to keep your duels moving so that winners don't have to wait too long for their next match. If a duel drags on because one person is not posting, the duel will be locked at an admins discretion and the person who posted the most in the duel will automatically be declared the winner. VII.Your duel will be monitored by an admin and a random number generator will be used to determine if your spells hit, miss, or block something so everything is fair. 1-2: The spell has hit your opponent and they lose a point.
3: You have blocked the spell and gain a point.
4-5: The spell has missed your opponent and you lose a point. VIII.Each dueller will have 10 points. The first dueller to lose all their points loses the duel. Points are lost based on spells being successful or not. See above scale for how points are lost or gained. IX.The winner of the duel will advance to the next round and will await a new opponent. X.Each dueller will have a chance to reply before a number is generated. Lou posts, Serena posts, Nana generates the numbers. Lou posts, Serena posts, Nana generates the numbers, etc. This way one member cannot keep shooting spells at their opponent and knock them out before they get a chance to reply.
Ball Royalty:
I.Ball Royalty is determined based on a number of posted made over a 2 week spam of time from the time the ball opens. II.Members are not permitted to write their posts prior to the ball opening and any pre-written posts during the 2 week period will result in disqualification as this gives you an advantage over people who are not able to do this and is simply unfair. III.The same characters cannot have more than one ball royalty title and cannot win consecutive ball royalties. Ex: Sebastien and Ah-Ree cannot be Sweetheart's King and Queen and Yule Ball King and Queen. IV.Winners will maintain their royalty titles until the next ball of the same title. Ex: Sebastien and Ah-Ree win Sweetheart's King and Queen and will maintain those titles until the next Sweetheart's Ball where a new king and queen are crowned. V.INH will aim to have 4 royalty competitions. Sweetheart's King and Queen in February, Summer Solstice King and Queen in June, Horriball King and Queen in October and Yule Ball King and Queen in December.
