vai tauiti
19 AUGUST 4TH, 2001 CURSEBREAKER TRAINEE (YEAR 2) HOMESCHOOLED HALF BLOOD UK | PERSONALITY: Vai is a quiet, observant person. She tends to try maintain a low profile, and does not enjoy being in the spotlight. On the surface, Vai appears composed, demure, and in control of herself. She can come across as a bit emotionless, but only because she keeps a rather tight leash on her emotions, preferring to filter and consider everything she says and the ways she reacts. She does not enjoy, and rarely loses her cool. However, underneath her composed exterior is a different story. Vai gets these bursts of anger and violent urges that she tries to suppress. She lives her life based on a societally imposed set of morals, because she thinks she is supposed to behave this way, as well as for her own convenience in living undisturbed as a functioning member of society. However, she is often fighting with this rising ‘darkness’ in her, which is part of a manifestation of her undiagnosed BPD, seemingly triggered by the smallest of things sometimes- someone being too loud on the street, a rude interaction with a coworker, the sound of a clock ticking late at night. When these bursts trigger, she will try to stamp down the feelings, her inner mantra being ‘don’t go crazy, don’t go crazy’. In terms of leisure, Vai enjoys being alone, and exploring old places. Perhaps stemming from her upbringing in Rapa Nui, she likes history, and unravelling the secrets of said history and mysteries. She also feels she can think clearer in more old, removed places, when she is all alone. ASPIRATION: In terms of her career, Vai aspires to be a successful Cursebreaker. Her desire to unravel mysteries, as well as her own curiosities regarding dark magic, the opportunity for travel, and capacity to work solo is what inspired her to pursue such a job. She is currently in her second year as a trainee and thus far is enjoying it. Although she wants to succeed and do very well in her industry, Vai would also prefer to stay out of the public eye, succeed quietly, rise up the ranks quietly, if such a thing is even possible. In other aspects of her life, Vai wants to reconcile the darkness within her one way or another. Whether that is by working hard to overcome it, and finding the light, as she knows her father would want, or slowly embracing it, she is not yet sure, but she wants to rid herself of the moral conflict she faces one way or another. She doesn’t know yet whether or not she wants a family. The idea of finding love appeals to her on a base level, but the practicalities of finding such a person make her somewhat doubtful, given her lack of social inclinations and the BPD (although she is not yet aware that that’s what it is). She does not believe in her current ability to be a good mother, and so kids are currently the last thing on her mind, although perhaps one day with the right person…maybe. | LIKES: -Small animals (especially cats and rabbits) -Makeup -Fashion -Snow -Night time -Exploring abandoned places -Solitude -Reading -Fire -Languages -Runes -Candles -Rain -Classical music -Misty/foggy mornings -Dark chocolate DISLIKES: -Loud people -Being dishevelled/not put together -Losing her cool -Being scrutinised -Mess -Physical touch -Red meat -Crowds -Surprises -Loud clock ticking sounds -Humidity -Cheap perfume -Bright light -Wet sock -Chapped lips -Getting blackout drunk |

CHILDHOOD. | Vai was born on the island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Rapa Nui was an island known even in the muggle world for it’s historic sacrifice and cannibalism, but little did the muggle side know how much that dark history shaped the modern day magical community, still part of the magical culture. Her parents were relatively average folk. Her father came from a lesser pureblooded family on the island, her mother, a muggle. Even from a young age, her parents tried to instill good values in Vai. Her father was Christian and tried his best to teach her to be a good person that would look after others, in spite of the darker inclinations that many witches and wizards in Rapa Nui tended towards. Her days were spent helping her parents, reading and attending the muggle school until she was of age to begin her home schooled magical education at 8. In her younger years, she never did leave Rapa Nui, although she always wanted to travel, and spent a lot of time exploring the island. By a young age, it seemed she knew her island by heart; every rock, nook and cranny. She loved visiting the large moai (the large stone heads Rapa Nui is famous for), and could spend hours simply being in their presence, chatting to them. Vai was more social as a young child, enjoying making friends, having adventures and exploring with other kids. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | The year she turned 8, Vai was pulled out of muggle school and began her at home magical education. Because the population of Rapa Nui was so small, even smaller for those of magical blood, there were not enough students for a formal school to exist on the island, but the magical children around this age were often taught together, the load of sharing distributed amongst parents. Her own parents still always pushed her to be her best, her father in particular doing his utmost to instill a strong sense of right and wrong in the girl. It was as she reached her teen years that her mother met a Chilean man, and left her father and her all alone. There were many people from Chile in Rapa Nui, given that Rapa Nui is a Chilean territory. Her mother running off hit them hard, Vai in particular feeling lost, hurt and blindsided. Like she wasn't enough. She began to struggle with dark thoughts, intense rage and violent urges, and a growing sense of emptiness within her. It was a subtle change, not always there, but something in her began to shift. The young teen slowly began to smile less, becoming more withdrawn, and less social. Vai struggled with these newfound feelings, especially when they contrasted so strongly with what she had been taught was right and wrong, and so, she decided to bury and hide them away. Not let anyone find out about the worrying thoughts she was having. Not worry her father now that it was just the two of them. Normally, she would have had the opportunity to attend Castelobruxo for her schooling, but given her mother’s sudden departure, Vai opted instead to stay in Rapa Nui and continue getting homeschooled, so she could be with her father. |
ADULTHOOD. | After graduation, Vai decided that she wanted to become a curse breaker. She’d been fascinated with dark magic and mysteries during her schooling, and had always wanted to travel, merely staying on her home island to support her dad. Her father encouraged her to go out and experience new things, for the sake of having a good life and building new experiences. So Vai spent a year at the Chilean Ministry of Magic, as a cursebreaker trainee. This year was a big change for the girl; it was the first time she’d ever left home, after all. It took a lot for her to adjust to the changes, and although she enjoyed it, it was also very high stress, her dark thoughts becoming a bit more frequent and the trainee struggling more to maintain her public appearances and hide them. Again, she never told anyone about them, the values ingrained in her from childhood by her Christian father causing the girl to feel extremely conflicted and to try to stamp them down. Outside of this, she excelled at her studies, and did well in her traineeship. Towards the end of her first year as a trainee, an opportunity opened up for her to embark on an exchange as a trainee at the British Ministry of Magic. Vai had never considered travelling so far from home, to a place so different, but the thrill of a new adventure drew her to apply for the exchange, and she was very happy when she was accepted, thus relocating to Britain and beginning her second year as a curse breaker trainee at the British Ministry. She’s only been in the UK a couple months, and is focused on her studies and adjusting to the drastic change life brought her. |
Special Situations
Vai has undiagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This disorder manifests in her bursts of anger that she feels, although she does do a good job at controlling it. After the urges subside, she has feelings of guilt and shame, recalling her parents' teachings of right and wrong, and feeling like something is seriously wrong with her. It also contributes to her feelings of emptiness, and the searching for something to fill that void. Although unaware of this, the initial manifestation and developments of her disorder began when her mother left her and her father. The intense feelings of abandonment and insecurity that stemmed from her mother Neru's leaving coalesced into something deeper and more intense. Her fear of being abandoned again gave birth to her fierce desire to hide these feelings away from the world.
As she grew and these 'episodes' began to grow more frequent, it affected the girl a lot socially. She was no longer as happy a child as she used to be, withdrawing and building up walls. She decided to try and mask these feelings, and hide them away from the world, due to the inner conflict she felt- the strong Christian morals she was raised with contrasting sharply with the feelings and impulses she would feel. It has taught her to keep an iron grip on her emotions at all times. The fact that she was desperate to keep it a secret is also a part of what pushed her to leave Rapa Nui as an adult, albeit a small part.
In the future, it is quite likely that Vai will slowly begin to indulge in her impulses, to satisfy that itch that has been tormenting her for years. It will get to a point where she will either need professional help to help her manage her emotions, or to give into the emotions and urges, and it is likely that she will go with the latter option, which will at first cause her even more conflict and confusion as she grapples with her condition. If she were to seek professional help, she would have regular meetings with a counsellor arranged by the ministry to help her manage the urges, on a monthly basis. However, she would be very reluctant to take this route for fear as well that it would affect her opportunities at work, as well as doubt that it would actually help.

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
The veela rather looked forward to how their trip was going to unravel. It was hardly his first time to Japan, but given the focus of their trip, exploring a lot of the more obscure, darker areas of the country, it was all rather exciting. It was a place often perceived for it's beauty and attraction, but had a lot of dark history, after all. And now, they were at Aokigahara Forest, the first leg of their trip. Given the reputation of the place, Sung-jin wandered what might be hanging around the area. Such a beautiful sight looming up ahead of them, concealing what could be any manner of dark creature or magic.
Eyes drifting to his fiancée, he offered her a small smirk. The weather was miserable, and although an inconvenience to traverse, it certainly added to the ambience. "I don't know that it's the rain we need to be wary of." He drawled. But he got what she meant, and smiled, his eyes taking on a sharp glint when she reminded him of their accommodation. "Of course. Make sure you stay close." Not that she needed the protection or anything, but of course he wanted to be close enough to protect her, should the need arise. Maybe it wouldn't; maybe it would be completely uneventful. One could never be too sure.
The entry path was wide enough that they could walk side by side, and Sung-jin wandered if it would narrow off further down the track. He didn't take Artemis's hand, as given how slippery everything seemed to be, it would be more of a hindrance to hold hands. He was struck by how, apart from the soft buzz of the rain, everything else seemed silent. Deserted, almost eerily so. This was heightened by the fact that they seemed to be the only sods foolish enough to brave the weather, though he was sure there must be others around somewhere.
