Sarah sent an appreciative glance toward the older gentleman sat at the table as he gave her explanation about the reason behind not being allowed the use of utensils during the competition. It made sense.[break][break]

"Thank you for explaining," She enthused, "That will indeed make for an entertaining competition I'm sure."[break][break]

As she finished her sentence and the youngest at the table threw out that the spoons were for after, she nodded, turning her gaze to him.[break][break]

"That makes sense," She agreed, "To finish your pie in peace once the timer has hit zero. Speaking of, I wonder when they'll call a start to the competition." She mused, sending a curious glance over towards the judge's table.[break][break]

The argument between Miaoyu and her newfound friends continued on, and despite her attempt to ignore the blatant contention, Sarah found herself suddenly at the center of the conversation. Well, rather, her poncho. Just as she was about to thank Francesco for calling her adorable, their Gryffindor counterpart voiced her opinion as well.[break][break]

"I'm sorry you feel that way," She addressed the dark-haired girl with a benevolent tone despite not being afforded the same in return, "Though I do believe there is a saying out there, 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' Perhaps that is one most relevant to our current situation, yes?"[break][break]

As Francesco began to mock Miaoyu once more, Sarah felt her smile falter slightly. Blood Traitor. It was a term she was well familiarized with, having been a listening ear to the vitriol spouted by her parents from time to time. It was a term that had, once or twice, been thrown in her direction by them as well, when news filtered to them about her lack of pickiness in regards to with whom she chose to spend her time. Especially last year, when they'd learned her date to the summer ball was a half-blood. She didn't say anything against the term, though, forcing a pleasantly neutral look on her face instead.

Sarah had heard the cackle from the Gryffindor girl as she'd pulled up the hood of her poncho. She figured it had something to do with her attire, based on a very quick glance in the girl's direction. But Sarah wasn't one to cause a scene. While the wordless jibe did ding her confidence ever so slightly, she didn't let it show to the others around her. If anything, it made her want to appear happier and more energetic.[break][break]

"Later being the operative word here," She teased, ducking as a scoop of pie flew diagonally over the table in front of her. The tiniest drop of pie landed on her cheek, having missed the poncho by mere millimeters. She let out a laugh at that, swiping the food away with her index finger. "Though I don't suppose I'd miss it much right now either, considering it's apparently not doing its job." She added with a wry smile.[break][break]

As one of the judges began announcing instructions and rules, she turned her gaze away from her fellows. She listened intently to the rules, absentmindedly eating the pie from her finger before dropping her hand to the table and tapping a light pattern onto it's surface. A nervous habit, one that didn't come about often, considering her mother used to send silent stinging hexes to her knuckles when she was caught doing it at the events she'd been dragged to growing up.[break][break]

Sarah chose again to ignore the tension brewing between Hokulani and Miaoyu, though she did keep an eye on the two, ready to conjure up a literal wall between them if need be. She was pondering what material would work the best when a rule spoken by the judge caught her attention.[break][break]

"No hands?" She asked incredulously, giving the pie set in front of her a look as if it was the food's fault, "Why on Earth did they put spoons on the table if we can't use them?"

Sarah chuckled at Hokulani's teasing words. She knew very well how little of a threat she appeared to be to others. It was a carefully curated aura that she gave off. While the young Hufflepuff was generally adverse to confrontation and violence and other such unpleasantries, it didn't necessarily mean she was helpless. Anyone paying attention to her in Defense Against The Dark Arts class could determine that.[break][break]

"Uh oh," She teased, "If he's got the stomach of an erumpant, then I really don't stand much of a chance, do I?" She watched the Slytherin boy and his Gryffindor companion as they took up the seats across from her and her housemate.[break][break]

"Five and a half, almost," She grinned at Francesco's antics, brown eyes focused on the Slytherin boy. Her cheeks warmed up in a light blush when he addressed the poncho she was wearing. She couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment or... something else.[break][break]

"I certainly hope it does!" She enthused, drawing the hood of the poncho up over her softly curled hair, "Something's got to keep any wayward pieces of pie from getting stuck to my head." She finished with a light giggle. [break][break]

"But don't let my desire for cleanliness fool you," She warned, an amused glint in her eye as she looked around at her fellow contestants, "I fully intend to give you all a run for your money, at the very least."

Sarah wasn't an exceptionally competitive person. She much preferred to cheer from the sidelines, if she was completely honest. That said, however, a pie eating contest was hardly a high-stakes competition. She likely wouldn't win, but the fun had in the process of trying was enticing enough to draw the young Hufflepuff in the direction of The Three Broomsticks. Upon entering and seeing the table for contestants, she grinned. There was at least one friendly face among those already present. She crossed the busy pub and plopped herself down next to her fellow Hufflepuff.[break][break]

"I've come prepared," She announced, looking at Hokulani as she unfolded a light blue rain poncho decorated with images of white cartoon cats and umbrellas, "Which, of course, means you should be afraid." She teased, pulling the abomination of a poncho over her head. If instilling fear was the competition, Sarah would never win. She was, as always, as harmless as one of the kittens depicted on her poncho.

Adora Avery, born Adora Max, is Cassius Viator Avery 's wife. They were married when she was 18, and after several years of trying for a baby, she's come to terms with her being unable to have a biological child. Cass has never been a good husband to her, but they sort of just stay out of each others' way. She absolutely loves to bake, and runs a sort of in-home bakery for the little wizarding village she and her husband live in. Everything other than that, and her having tan or darker skin is up to you!
