17 18 DECEMBER 2003 STUDENT 6TH YEAR GRYFFINDOR HALF-BLOOD JIMEI, XIAMEN, CHINA
| PERSONALITY: Yichen may not be an actual empath, but he has been known to have an innate ability to the emotions of others and sometimes even decipher their needs better than most people. He’s a warm and compassionate young man, knowing that life dealt him a bad deal, he’s learned to live with it and hopes that he could possibly help other people get over their own difficulties through the same perseverance and determination he’s had all his life. Always being put down by other people that don’t understand him, he’s found a new way of looking at the world in darkness. He believes that most people walk through their lives with a blindfold on, not really seeing what’s right in front of them until it’s taken away. When he was younger, he learned that even something as valuable as a person’s sight could be taken from them, and that’s humbled him in ways he never thought possible. This is a whole new definition to finding the light in the darkness.
He owns a guide dog that helps him get around from time to time, but out of consideration he will often just use his walking stick when he’s in class. He knows that dogs can be a big distraction to the general population, and he would rather not be the cause of why so many people fail to move in to their next year. Yichen has deep sense of justice, and will not stand while someone else is in trouble. Though he would rather avoid the use of violence, the boy isn’t afraid to crack a few eggs to get his point across. Bullying isn’t acceptable in his presence. He’s learned to trust his instincts, remaining calm while under pressure and being able to weed out the fake people from the genuine.
This has helped him form long lasting friendships and bonds with people over the last couple years of his life. It’s safe to say that he’s very protective of the people he cares about, and would resort to violence if it meant that he could help them. Don’t underestimate him to be weak just because he’s blind, he’s learned to adapt and fight back. Not everyone needs their eyes to sense an attack coming towards them.
ASPIRATION: Yichen doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life after school, his disability has made most careers close to impossible to achieve. Perhaps he’d go into something with animals? Create his own seeing eye dog center where he helps the dogs learn how to guide their blind companions through their daily life. He’d need some help with that, since running a business is a little difficult without one’s eyesight. For now, that feels like a place where he can start building up from, and it will help him not only comfort others like himself but also stay true to himself. A lot of dogs need new homes to go too, so it would be a win-win situation for everyone. Letting the dogs stay at the center while they were being trained, and then letting them go to new homes where they would do most of the caretaking for their human companions. Perhaps now that he was in his sixth year, Yichen should be looking into who was interested in joining him to create such a beautiful program for others with vision disabilities and the beautiful dogs that would literally become man’s best friend? It was something to work on, carving out the dream to make it possible. | LIKES: - Dogs - Making friends and trying to imagine what they look like since his vision is limited to very blurry blobs - Reading, though that’s probably a bit of a stretch since he needs to use the “Read me” spell to even remotely known what’s written on a page - Spending time with the last few family members he had left in the world - Spending time outdoors because it looks too dark in the castle, even the blurry blobs he sees are too dark to understand what’s right in front of him, when he’s outside, sometimes he can pretend he’s looking a a beautiful tree that he vividly remembers what one looks like
DISLIKES: - Bullies and violence. Yichen will not stand idly by if he hears someone in trouble, he will try to take the diplomatic approach before he ventures into a more violent territory - Being alone. He is almost never alone, Yichen has his guide dog to keep him company most of the time, but even animals need their space. He tends to feel very vulnerable when he’s alone. - Dark places. He might not be able to actually see the darkness, but for some reason the blurry images in his vision would look different when he’s in the dark compared to when he’s standing in the light. - Narcissistic people. They rub him the wrong way. Yichen has been so used to being around selfless and loving people all his life that when he started school and learned there were just narcissistic and egotistical people out in the world, he decided to try to avoid them at all costs. - Rainy days. His parents died in a car crash on a rainy day, and though he didn’t see it happen, it still haunts him. Maybe one day he’ll get over his trauma with rain, but for now, he’s still living with it. |
