The corn maze in front of Bonnie was already annoying her. Usually she came to the maze with Cade, that way she could get mad at him when they got lost. That ended up with him teasing her over it and the two of them laughing and arguing until the sun was almost gone and they found the exit. Currently, the only person she was annoyed at was Simon. They’d started the maze together but he’d ditched her pretty quick into it. His excuse had been he knew the correct way and he wasn’t spending all day in the maze. It hadn’t hurt her feelings considering she’d only invited him to ward Cade off.

As Bonnie took a left, she was cut off by the very boy she was trying to stay away from. It had been two weeks since she’d talked to him and had planned on it being two more weeks. ”Youre cheating.” She mentioned with an eye roll. Bonnie walked around Cade with an annoyed glare on her face and continued on the path in front of her.

How was it possible for one person to make her stomach flutter and heart turn cold all in one swift move. Cade had given her enough emotional whiplash to last her a few years. As she stormed off from him, she let the one comment go. She ignored him, groaning out in frustration when she was out of ear shot. Keeping to some sort of hope that she was going the right way, she turned right again when she came to a dead end. Somehow she was turned back the same direction, Cades voice loud enough for her to hear once more. Now he was just being an ass.

”I don’t care if anything I say hurt your feelings or not. Don’t you have Sarah to catch up with?” Bonnie’s eyes went to the cup in his hand, grabbing it from him and taking a sip as she walked by him once more. ”Were just friends Cade. So what does it matter who you’re kissing.” She kept walking down the path, swallowing down a large gulp of the drink before emptying it and turning to throw it back at him. ”Here. Have fun doing what ever it is you do without me Cade.”

Very small parts of her felt guilty when the cup left her hand. Even more so when the drink started to drip down his shirt. If she’d had any sort of humor in her at the moment, she’d of made a joke at how it made his shirt sparkle. Only there was no humor left in her. Especially as the other comment left his mouth. Her hands flexed into fist at her side.

As he called after the girl who’d walked by them, Bonnie felt herself snap. She stormed up behind him, taking hold of his arm and tugging him to look at her. ” Stop saying such crappy things to me, Cade.” If she lost any control of how she felt, she would have cried. “I’m calling a truce. If you don’t want to do that then don’t look at me again. Don’t talk to me again. Don’t think about me again. I’m not doing this anymore.” She didn’t want him to drop her. She wanted this to be done. ”Im not fighting with you any more.” The lack of sleep she’d dealt with wasn’t something she could keep up for her sanity.

”Because it’s too difficult to ignore you and not talk to you.” That was the truth. Being without him the last two weeks had been hard. There had been numerous times something came up that she wanted to tell him. Missed having him to sit with at breakfast and lunch. He was the only constant she had in her life. Even though she was the one who walked away from him, she wanted it fixed. She watched him try to get rid of the cider on his sweater, her nose scrunched slightly. ”Im sorry. I didn’t expect to actually hit you.”

”And I’ll be around. Okay? As long as you don’t throw my lack of experience in my face anymore or make it obvious you’re trying to upset me by calling after other girls.” Her voice was quiet with her request, almost feeling embarrassed to admit it bothered her. Admitting a weakness. ”I didn’t decide it. Just suggested it lightly.” She reached out, wiping a bit of remaining liquid off his sweater. When he mentioned he didn’t know why he was avoiding her, she felt that anxious nausea rise. ”Do you really not understand?”

Cade Black

"I really don't."

Him not understanding was making her feel like she'd made this into something much bigger than it was. That she had imagined all the things that happened between them at the Ball. The ease they had clung to each other. The looks. The forehead kiss. Merlin the forehead kiss. From the start she wanted to cut in as he spoke. Instead, she bit her tongue and listened until she couldn't any more.

"I was avoiding you." Her cut in then was a mere mumble. Her head jerked up to meet his gaze. "I said never mind be-" She hummed as she stopped herself from saying anything. She would wait until he was finished. Her arms crossed over her chest as her eyes left him and her foot tapped on the ground. Her growing frustration was taking over. How could he not see why she changed her mind each time. The fact that she hadn't actually changed anything. He should have known her better than that. To see the lies for what they were. As he started walking, Bon followed behind, arms still crossed over her chest.

Her brows furrowed together. Was she really the only one what had something in her dreams? Once he was finished, she stopped walking, hand out to gently ease him to a stop. "Cade. I-"' Her words were a jumbled mess in her mind. "I said never mind to make t easier. To give you an escape card. It was obvious that you didn't feel the same way I did." She put up a hand to make sure he didn't cut in on her. "But you're right. Maybe our friendship is too much to risk on the chance that things don't go right. Maybe I should keep any dreams in my mind. I'll stop blurting out things after I say one more thing." She took a deep breath and let her eyes rise to meet his. "I remember everything from the night of the Ball. Everything. But we shouldn't let one night over throw all of our years of friendship. I would rather keep it the way it is than lose it all together. i can't do that." She looked down at the ground once more.

"Can we go back to things before the ball? Before things got different?"

Cade Black

Somehow when Bonnie expressed that she couldn't lose Cade, she had a sinking feeling she might. That this little ordeal would have been too much for Cade to want to continue being friends with her. Just the same, she thought there was no way he would let her slip out of his life completely. not without some gruffy fight about it. She was with him. Hadn't he just said that to her the last time they spoke?

Look Bonnie...

Something in her gut told her she wasn't going to like his next words. Sure enough, he was saying he couldn't give her what she deserved. The idiot seemed to think he couldn't be everything she deserved. Unless he'd actually break her heart. Could she handle that? Possibly. Bon was strong, but maybe not strong enough for that. To have her best friend be the reason she broke. Something would have to break her at some point right? You didn't make it out of teenage years unscathed. His next words had a coating of fear and confusion covering her face. "Im sorry, what?" She asked, sure she didn't hear what he had just said to her. "You want to... give this." She pointed back and forth between them "A try. Like not friends. Like more?" Her mouth went try and her tongue felt thick. "Are you messing with me?" She asked, heart racing. This would be cruel even for Cade. To tease her about the thing she'd been hinting at. Now that it was presenting itself, was she actually ready? Had she been playing with fire and now had to deal with being set on fire?

Cade Black

"yes."

Bonnie's eyes widened a little more before she stopped moving back anymore. He said yes. He.Said.Yes. No, she had to be dreaming. When he confirmed he wasn't messing with her, she let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Her teeth unclenched and her shoulders relaxed. How was she so pent up so quickly with him. When he told her to stop making the face she furrowed her brows before softly rolling her eyes. "What face should I be making when you say things like that?" He pinched her nose, causing her to naturally swat at his hands. Should she still swat him away?

Her eyes looked to his hand as he offered it before looking back up at his eyes. "As long as you aren't being weird about it I will let you be nice to me. Just be patient with me." She reached out and laced her fingers with his. "I still get to be myself, right?" She asked curiously, mind wandering to images of what his usual conquest looked like. Was he still going to pursue them? Was she going to be it for him while they tested the waters? Questions she forced herself not to blurt out. They deserved a moment. Just a moment before things got any more uncomfortable. "Or do you expect me to be different."
