Maddox Llewelyn
31 April 23rd, 1988 Hog's Head Owner/Bartender Hogwarts/Hufflepuff Graduate Muggleborn Hogsmeade, Scotland | PERSONALITY: If you were to look at just the surface of Maddox you might conclude that he is a grumpy man who lacks a single humourous bone. He can be grouchy, short-tempered, and sarcastic most of them time. Beneath this, however, is a deeply caring soul who will listen to your woes free of judgment, so long as you aren't whining about nonsense problems. He has a very grounded down-to-earth view of things and tends to be relaxed and enjosy adventures even if he's a grumpy, growly sort at work where he needs to put on his Boss side. ASPIRATION: Now that he has purchased the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade he is hoping to transform it into an establishment that will rival The Broomsticks and Nox. To do so he knows will take a lot of doing but he hopes a grungy let loose establishment is what people will want. One day he'd like to own a chain of bars and simply manage them as owner and sit back in comfy retirement with a dozen or more rescued cats. | LIKES: - Whiskey - Archery - Woodcrafting - Animals, but especially cats - Being Outdoors (Camping, Hiking, etc.) DISLIKES: - Musicals - Tea in bags - Whinging adults - Tacky yard decorations - Ventriloquist dummies |

CHILDHOOD. | In 1988 the Llewelyn family welcomed their second son into the family. The healthy child had a head full of dark hair right off the bat and was a fussy sort who didn't sleep the night for many months. Both of his parents struggled to balance the needs of the infant as well as the blossoming jealousy from their two-year-old first son. This was further compounded by the surprising news that just before his first birthday that his mother was pregnant again. This is how the family came to have their first and only daughter, filling their small apartment too its maximum. The household was always loud, and chaotic, with shouting coming from both parents and children. But it was never angry or violent. They had fun much to the complaints of their neighbours, right up until they could afford to buy a home in the countryside. With some strings pulled by their mother's father, they were able to buy the property beside their Grandad's, giving the three wild children free reign of all the land connected. Maddox loved this change the most. He was always out exploring, finding frogs to put in his wardrobe drawers and trying to tame squirrels to do tricks. When his parents struggled to find him it almost always meant that he had gone over to Grandad Ewen's, following him around as he tended the herd of sheep and cows. One summer he had gone over in the early morning hours and got to witness the birth of a cow, which his Grandad let him name Nessie after Loch Ness. Nothing strange really ever happened to him until he was ten years old. It was the Easter break of 1998 and he had gone for a bike ride with his school friends when they ended up approached by older boys who had bullied them before moving on to secondary school. Try as they might they couldn't avoid a confrontation with them, the older boys pushing them around and even breaking his best friend's glasses. It all came to a head when they made one of his friends cry by twisting his arm painfully. Maddox's short temper flared in a whole new way and ended up accidentally doing magic, each of the older boys sprouting animal parts and causing a whole panic. This came with a flurry of events, from nowhere two furtive people appearing and suddenly everyone acting disoriented while a man in purple came over to ask where his parents resided. Resigned to being in trouble he could never have anticipated the discovery of his being magic and that, in a year, a letter would arrive in the hands of another witch or wizard to explain about the magical world and a school called Hogwarts. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | When he first got on the train to Hogwarts he had been in awe of how many other kids his age were headed to the magical school. Not only that but they were all talking about the defeat of some evil person who no one seemed to want to name directly. As a Muggleborn he was rather lost, the television had reported odd things but nothing he had connected to being magic until now. It was a whirlwind of information and adjustments but in a good way. Maddox's first year would find him making a good friend, and learning about the wizarding war that had been waged without his notice. And how the Ministry had been taken over by dark witches and wizards. It would not be until years later that he would realize how close to being kidnapped he had been had the Auror Shacklebolt not protected him and his family from being noticed. But as his first year blended into his second and third he didn't spend much time thinking about it. In his third year took on a good deal of electives on top of playing Quidditch as a Keeper. He liked playing as Keeper because it gave him a great view of the game and his only job was to keep the quaffle out of the hoops. While he wasn't obsessively passionate about it he did find a bit of fun in being active. By fourth year he was fairly good on a broom and was showing aptitude for charms and care of magical creatures. Fifth year is when he started to notice other people in a more hormonal way. Girls were pretty, boys were cute, and he felt confused about whether he liked one or the other, both, or if gender didn't matter as much as the soul beneath it. This conundrum plagued him along with Prefect duties and Quidditch practices, right up until OWL exams came due. Then he spent the summer dating a nice girl from his hometown before his sixth year. The last two years spent at Hogwarts were almost a whirlwind of activity. They were now preparing for NEWTs at the end of their school journey while juggling everything else and he ended up dating a boy in his year for a time. Nothing seemed to stick, however, as they were all too young and immature to have discussions. As an adult, he would develop communication skills, but as a teen, he resorted to 'fine, have it your way!' and leaving it at that. |
ADULTHOOD. | In 2005, after he had graduated from school, Maddox was a little adrift with what he wanted to do in his life. The first place he went was home, of course, where he got to argue with his older brother and younger sister. Most days, he did the farm labour his grandfather couldn't get to, despite the man's stubbornness, all of which was made a lot easier with magic. For a year, he tended sheep and named a new cow, Starburst, who would follow him around the pasture as he repaired fences. When he was twenty, he had enough of living at home and dealing with his brother being judgemental. Not to mention it was hard to date when he had to take his dates home, and his father had immediately voiced several sentiments about Maddox needing to think of his future. It became one of the worst real fights he'd ever had with his father as the man finally told him that he thought his homosexual nature was deviant. The argument got so bad that he was told to leave and not to come back until he'd stopped 'acting foolish'. It was easy enough to magically pack all of his belongings to leave, with the Knight Bus being his ticket away with everything in tow. Not knowing where to go, he had chosen to be dropped off in London. For the first few months, he worked at the Ministry as a clerk, filing everything from complaints to requests to their departments to get some paychecks under his belt. The work was not terrible, hard and fast-paced, but he learned quickly. While it paid fairly well and made him financially stable, he realized he hated being behind a desk. As the years passed, he went from a dreamer to a grumpy man with a short fuse. Then, one day, he was sitting listening to some Pureblood rant at him about how Muggleborns were ruining magic that he finally had enough. Slamming his hands on the desk, he had explained to the man where he could stick his ass and then walked out of the building to never come back. It was time to take control of his future and shove it into the shape he wanted. Eventually, he met a woman called Jersey while taking a train anywhere but where he was, knowing her as magical by catching her casting a spell. This very simple act brought into his life a dear friend with whom he travelled, partied, and simply set out to find where they both sat in the world. It started to feel like fate as they went from strangers on a train to people planning a future where they were both in it. And a dream was forged. After years of not knowing what he wanted or who he was, he now had a friend and a passion. Not to mention just enough savings to buy a property to put into motion their shared dream. A bar. Yes, it's not exactly a grand palace, but Maddox was simply glad it was affordable. The Hog's Head in Hogsmeade put him back in Scotland, which he was not a fan of, but he made do for the start of their shared vision. It was going to take some doing, but they were going to turn the Hog from uninteresting to the hot spot in the small village. |

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
It was hard to pay attention in class most days, his mind drifting so much that whatever the professor was talking about went in one ear and out the other. So when people started moving books to get down to their task he was at a loss as to what it was. Lucky for him that one of the other students actually answered his question. There would have been no way for him to know what spell they were to be working on otherwise. Yawning a little he shifted a little to at least attempt the spell before their teacher noticed him slacking. After a moment it was totally clear he hadn't heard the incantation properly as he failed it a few times in a row. Luck was still with him.
"No, no, do it this way. Are you stuck on the wand movement too?"
Remy gave a lazy wave and a little shrug when the student beside him interrupted his latest try to ask him what he was stuck on the wand movement. "Nah? I just didn't see it. I wasn't really listening." The response he gave was quickly followed by a laugh. It might not be terribly funny to others but being honest was just his default stance when asked a question. He turned his gaze to them fully, definitely giving off an 'I almost fell asleep' vibe as he leaned his arm on the desk. "Hey, would you mind showing me it once more?"
