OC CHARACTER APPLICATION
. . .
As a student at Ilvernmorny she thrived in a highly competitive environment and enjoyed living away from home for the first time in her life. She built many friendships, although most have been rather superficial ones and likely completed her studies with one of the best results in her year. She did not play quidditch, focussing mostly on studying about art and music in her free time, much to some colleagues' disapproval. Her interests in muggle art and music at that time had been considerably more pronounced than in anything else the magic world could offer.
✿ Year 4: Boys started looking at her differently. She could not quite tell what was different really, but she noticed the change during one of the potion classes, when one of her housemates got injured whilst chopping small plants roots and got criticised by the professor 'Eyes on the knife, Reynolds, not on Lacroix.' She discovered more about the school's past connection with local Native American tribes and how this had shaped the curriculum and existing activities (e.g. through introduction of certain wandless magic classes/modules). Her mother encouraged her to start trying to cast the most simple defensive spells without a wand. Of course that it would take her some years to manage to achieve anything really, without holding a wand.
She chuckled when he mentioned she might be too classy for that club. "Are you implying someone broke into the boss’ personal liquor cellar to be able to serve this brandy to me?” It would not be the first time a member of staff went above and beyond to procure the desired drink for a customer. Timmea had done so herself, whilst pretending to be a member of staff at a posh restaurant.
While she knew his name, she appreciated the short introduction. She knew it would be only polite to reciprocate. ”Timmea Lacroix”, she gave him her real name, something she rarely did when she barely met someone, for very good reasons. People who enjoyed reading books or watched the news about upcoming movies, would have heard of the name Lacroix. It did not help that both her mom and Timmea’s names appeared both on the acknowledgement page and at the start of each volume. Her father being a well-known author was not a secret, unlike her being a lyricist. ”Nice to meet you!”

BASIC INFORMATION
Timmea Lacroix 23 23 June 1995 Lyricist / Art Thief Ilvermorny alumna / thunderbird Halfblood London | PERSONALITY: INQUISITIVE: Timmea would be very interested in learning new things, especially learning new languages or gaining knowledge of different cultures and traditions. She is usually reasonably talkative and does not hesitate to ask questions when she deems them necessary. If anything or anyone intrigues her, she won't stop until she gains a better understanding of the person/issues under discussion. Perhaps this makes her quite the sleuth. DRIVEN: While one will surely struggle to guess what is the driving force behind everything she does, people usually can tell that Timmea is highly determined. She is not scared to fail and will try as many times as necessary to achieve her goals. AMBITIOUS: Coming from a reasonably wealthy and successful family herself, Timmea realizes she's privileged. In her view, there is no reason not to work hard and do well in life. Her ambitions might be questionable sometimes, as she hopes to become the biggest donor of art in the world and contribute substantially to returning it to people - at no cost. As her father, she also loves writing. She's been writing the lyrics for some well-known bands under a pseudonym. Contrary to Julian, she does not seek glory or recognition. She just wants to be the best at what she does while preferably keeping a low profile. LOW PAIN TOLERANCE: It doesn't take much of an injury for her to feel pain, which is why she tries her best to avoid it. Timmea would not willingly put herself through getting tattoos or piercings, for example. She still recalls getting her ears pierced as a child and the pain that followed. All just for creating some sort of opening in which earrings may be worn. She is a strong believer that any such body modification is synonym to torture. AVERAGE LIAR: Her lies become believable only when something or someone she cares deeply for is at stake. It takes some time to get into that mindset, so lying doesn't come easily to her. Since 'freeing art' is gradually becoming a greater part of her life, she is working on perfecting those lies. INTROVERT: People would think she's an odd introvert or even jump at the conclusion she's an extrovert, occasionally. She seems to thrive in a large social circle. Her numerous contacts and 'friendships' are key to her investigations and success as an art thief. She needs to be at the right type of events without raising suspicion, and this is what the people around her help with. She is likely to be often seen in the company of what one might call 'crème de la crème'. Since her father is a famous author in the muggle world, the fame of others helps her fade away in the background, become forgettable when convenient. Contrary to expectations and beliefs, she actually has a very small circle of friends and does not open up easily about the things that actually matter to her. On the bright side, once someone is in, they're in for the long haul. LIKES: any type of art really (painting, music, photography, etc.), high quality snacks, honest people, free museums and galleries, patchouli candles, walks in nature & spending time outside, did I mention art? DISLIKES: art traffickers, art forgery, vandalism of art, any art-related crimes basically (she is convinced that art should belong to everyone); alcohol (she has very poor alcohol resistance); her mother's side of the family; jet lag; receiving flowers ASPIRATIONS: She hopes to become the biggest anonymous donor of art in the world and contribute substantially to returning it to people - at no cost. Writing loads of songs, maybe getting better at composing music herself. |
FAMILY
Julian LaCroix – 50 – renowned author – Canadian
Sharon (Shenchu深楚, née Lin林) LaCroix – 47 – painter – born Chinese, currently Canadian
HISTORY
Daughter of Julian LaCroix – renowned author – and Sharon (Shenchu深楚, née Lin林) LaCroix – painter, she was born in a loving family, with a strong passion for arts, in Quebec, Canada. Her mother is a disowned pureblood witch, while her father is a muggle – and part of the reason why Sharon is still subjected to her family’s misdirected anger and acts of retaliation.
Needless to say, the Lins had not been keen on their daughter getting involved with a muggle, sullying the blood of the family. They might have settled the seven year-long conflict by disowning Sharon, but then the bastard stole a family heirloom.
Ever since they left the continent (Asia), it had been nothing but challenging to deal with the wrath of the Lins. The fact that Julian LaCroix’s several novels made it big in the past two decades, currently being made into movies, did not exactly help them keep a low profile, although they moved to the other part of the globe (North America - Canada).

Timmea not only shared her parents’ love and respect for the arts, but also Julian’s sticky fingers. When it became clear that illicitly trafficked cultural goods, including art, frequently made their way to fancy properties, often ending up hung on the wall of people wealthy or influential enough that one would want to impress, Timmea knew she had to do something about it.
Her own family heirloom had been the first one to be returned to the people. Ever since, she is conducting thorough research globally, on any pieces of art, as well as artifacts, that might have mysteriously disappeared. Once these are located, she finds a way to obtain and return them to their rightful place, usually a museum or a gallery (She is basically a little bit like Robin Hood when it comes to art xD. Only steals from the corrupt (those who stole first) and returns it to the people).

After graduation, she started working as a lyricist in Canada, under the pseudonym of Nyx.
She then moved to London a couple of years ago, becoming a lyricist by day and England's 'greatest art thief' by night. In other words, no questionable gift to an influential and/or wealthy individual is safe on the long-term. She anonymously and permanently lends art to museums, galleries and/or charities. Timing had been essential to the success of her plans, so far.
She chose London after graduation because the city is known as Europe's capital of art. It also happens to be an arts trade center for art lovers, collectors and investors, so she knew she'd be kept busy here. Another reason was her wish to put some distance between herself and her nuclear family, while also remaining reasonably far from Asia. The UK made the most sense also due to its buzzing nightlife and the vibrant music scene. Millions of bands are aiming to play in London, so it seemed like a good market for a lyricist.
IMPORTANT MEMORIES
🍁 She and her mother trained together. From an early age, Sharon pushed her to master defensive magic. Her warning is still ringing in her ears at present, with regards to keeping a low profile while at school and avoiding any contact with the Lins. Does she feel any more thankful to her mom at present? Not really, all Timmea recalls was the hurling of a wooden stick hitting the back of her legs every time she failed to cast a strong enough shield charm. She also manages to remember her mom's persistence and the many sincere gestures of love. Perhaps, love is what made her continue to train on her own and further develop her defensive magic skills, even after leaving home.
🍁 First week in London and her brief encounter with one of the bands she is frequently writing songs for. The existence of their contract was poetically determined by a coin toss. Timmea is recently spending quite a lot of her limited spare time in their company.
PER-SCHOOL YEAR EXPERIENCE
✿ Year 1: First year at Ilvermorny has been a bit of a blur. It had been Timmea's first time living away from home, for such a long time - and only visiting during holidays. The sorting ceremony is still something she recalls vividly up to this day, as she gasped audibly when the Thunderbird carving beat its wings, which made even her mother laugh, when seeing that memory. Mount Greylock, the location of the school, provided great inspiration for her very first poems and lyrics. Socially, she likely had a slower start than most, spending more time admiring the vibrant paintings in the castle and the even more impressive scenery and surroundings, rather than discussing with her peers.
✿ Year 2: She became slightly more confident in her second year at Ilvermorny. It turned out that there were students of her age, that did not get tired of listening to her speak about specific paintings or songs for hours and hours. With a few friends in the bag, she felt even more motivated to do her best in classes and participate in more extracurricular activities. She started looking into specific clubs and study groups, but her mother insisted she joined duelling and learned the basics, the very least.
✿ Year 3: This has been a rather exciting year. Timmea applied to her first muggle poetry contest, using her father's computer. She spent all that winter holiday trying to learn how to fill in the application and submit it online. She then sent an owl almost every week, post-holiday, to check with her dad if results were made public via the contest website. It took until summer for all stages of the competition to end, but the excellent news was that she won the first place in the category she submitted for. It had been the first 'pocket money' she earned herself, which felt great. This made her become a regular participant in muggle writing competitions. It also meant that her time would become more limited, making it difficult to see her pals as frequently.
✿ Year 5: She started seeing Reynolds actually and perhaps one could say he was her first love. It did not last much though, since in time, it turned out he was just pretending he was interested in art and in the song lyrics she wrote. They broke up before the year ended. In this year she'd have heard first of her father's novels selling very well and the growing interest in filming a movie after his book. Life seemed to change a bit at school. Although her father was a muggle author, some muggleborn and halfblood witches and wizards would have heard about her father's success from muggle relatives.
✿ Year 6: Not many people have read her poems and song lyrics so far. Her closest friends in school would know by now that she enjoyed writing a lot, when she had the time. But then an opportunity arose to suggest a list of songs the school choir should sing during an end of term student event. Timmea actually ended up composing the music and writing the lyrics to one of the songs to be sung later in the year. It had been the last piece of work she's produced under her actual name, since a bitter Reynolds started making fun of the song and even enchanted badges that would play the tune, alongside a bunch of incorrect, rude lyrics.
✿ Year 7: She met the first band she formally wrote for due to a very helpful introduction her father made in the summer between her sixth and seventh year. She had kept in touch with one of the band members throughout her final year, getting to understand more about the music they were producing and eventually, post-graduation, ended up working with them, first co-authoring the lyrics with this band member, and later on producing them independently. Their collaboration is still ongoing, although they are meeting far less frequently since she moved to the UK.
RP SAMPLE
”I liked it. In my opinion, your voice is meant for a bigger stage.” She could not help but wonder if his parents taught him to be humble too. The response he’s given to her earlier compliment felt like a replay of what any Lin witch would say, if faced with a similar situation.
