Normally, Paris would have woken Nate up if he was leaving before him. He’d at least get to kiss him goodbye before they parted for the day. Paris’s job started earlier than Nate’s. Such was the life of someone in the health care setting – even as a cleaner. He hoped that one day he could help Paris figure out more for himself. Nate knew he wasn’t exactly happy to have gone from professor to cleaner. Nate could imagine. Going from Unspeakable to Broommaker had been a downgrade for him a year ago as well.

When he roused and found the bed beside him empty, and cool, Nate frowned. He’d have to leave Knockturn Alley on his own and that generally meant apparating out since his presence was still uncertain by those who lived there. Without Paris, he’d like get jumped and robbed. Nate dressed in his spare robes – left purposely for mornings like this – and headed to the Ministry.

He spent his day on mundane tasks which had been built up until a message arrived for him. His presence was requested at the London location of Kingsley Brooms immediately. That could not be good. Upon arrival there, Nate found himself facing a bunch of disgruntled broommakers who worked for his father. The problem seemed to be that the machine which planed the wood which were then turned into brooms was not working. The only operating manual was written in Norwegian. Well, that was poor planning on their part.

Nate translated while the mechanic fixed things up. At one point, Nate stuck his nose in where it didn’t belong and for his impertinence, part of his robes burned and so did his arm. He jumped back immediately and cursed while the broommakers laughed at the boss kid’s expense.

That problem resolved, Nate headed home for the night – and sent the broommakers home as well. Nate arrived at Paris’s flat with a small pop the other wouldn’t be able to hear. He could make all the noise he wanted and Paris would never know he was there. Nate wanted to him to know and so the search began, a short one given how small the flat was. He wrapped his arms around the man’s middle and pressed his lips into the side of Paris’s neck which was when he realized the fever.

“Oh, honey...” Nate spoke before moving to stand before Paris. “Are you sick?” He placed his hand against the man’s forehead. Burning.
