Considering this, she seems to believe she is above most others. She tends to surround herself with peers from wealthy Pureblood families who have the privilege to understand where she comes from. She is independent and studious, priding herself in excelling in anything she puts her mind to. ASPIRATION: Ever since she was little Breit has wanted to be a healer like her father. CHILDHOOD. | Briet is the middle child and the only daughter of Runar and Christina Arason. She was born in the small coastal city of Isafjoerdur, Iceland. From the beginning she has been in her brother’s shadow where her mother was concerned but has always been her father’s little princess. She could do no wrong in her father’s eyes when at home. However, outside the confines of the home she was expected to stick by the strict old-world code of conduct. She should be seen and not heard, maintain appropriate decorum at all times, show deference and respect to her elders, and never contradict or outshine her older brother. She was schooled in music, dance, and language since she was three. While she is competent in the cello and piano, she prefers dance to instruments. In addition to Icelandic, she speaks English, French, and German and reads Latin. As part of her upbringing, she’s been to every social event her mother could drag her to. Although she had no interest, her father insisted. These events have made her hate the idea of being dressed up. If she never sees another dress in her life, she will be extremely happy. Ever since she could remember she wanted to be a healer like her father. However, her mother has insisted that she should be content to be a wife and mother and leave the day-to-day expectation of earning a living to her husband. Briet hated that insistence and, although her father would never openly contradict her mother, he always ensured she had whatever new medical related toy or book she wanted. Most of the time these came as gifts from friends and family. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | Briet looked forward to starting Hogwarts and the next adventure of her life. Granted she still needed to comport herself with the dignity that was expected of her and her siblings. However, Briet would not let that stop her from having fun. As she stepped up to the stool to be sorted, she assumed she would end up in Ravenclaw like her older brother. That was not in the cards, and she was unexpectedly sorted into Slytherin. She shrugged to her brother as she went to join her new house and watched as other students were sorted. She could tell by how the others carried themselves which were of the Pureblood houses, and which were half-blood or worse. She was disheartened to see non-purebloods sorted into her house. Her brother had said that Slytherin prided themselves by having blood purity. So, either he had lied, or this was something new. Either way she shrugged and pointedly ignored anyone who did not carry themselves as she would expect of a proper family. She did notice one girl in her year that held the promise that she might be someone Briet could associate with. She struck up a conversation with the girl and they started a tentative friendship and the two would grow closer over the years. Briet had still wanted to be a healer, so organized her studies and time around those classes she would need to take to follow in her father’s footsteps. She had no desire to marry, especially if marriage meant not being allowed to work outside the home. She intended to make her own way and actively balked at the idea of arranged marriages. Even though her parents’ marriage had been arranged and was not, in her opinion, a good example of why arranged marriages did not work. |

Briet rounded the corner and slipped into the Slytherin common room. It was well past curfew and she should be asleep, but she’d just gotten Sinner, the newest, to her, in the Shiver series and she was itching to start it. She found it amusing how the muggles saw werewolves, however from the way the author wrote, sometimes she wondered if she was witch or muggle. She had a blanket slung over her arm and curled up in a large armchair, lighting the lamp over her shoulder with flick of her wand. She summoned one of the house elves and asked him to get her some coffee. He hesitated, then seeing her pleasant smile start to transform into a scowl, bowed and disappeared to run her errand for her.
She opened the book and settled in to read and smiled at the feel of the pages under her fingers. Reading for pleasure was different for her than her studies. The pages felt different, the whole vibe was different. This was the one pleasure she allowed herself to keep at school. It gave her a break from her studies which tended to overwhelm her brain at times. He father always said she should take time to relax and enjoy her time at school while she was here, otherwise she would miss out. She figured her father meant more of getting involved in the clubs and such, and she may… she hadn’t completely decided yet.
The house elf re-appeared with a nice warm cup of coffee and Briet took the cup from him, using it to warm her hands. Why was the common room always so cold? She thought and as she finished the thought the house elf lit a fire in the fireplace. She stood and shifted the chair to face the fire, then settled back down covering herself in her blanket and picking up the cup of coffee again. She wondered how long it would take her to get tired tonight. One of these days she may need to get a full night’s sleep. She smiled, grabbed her wand and magicked the book to levitate in front of her so she could read.
And so began the next few hours of her life, mesmerized by the written word and avoiding the call of her bed.
