RIO AURINKO
TWENTY EIGHT 7TH JUNE AUROR HOGWARTS/RAVENCLAW/GRADUATED ”PURE”BLOOD LONDON | PERSONALITY: What drives Rio? Adoration. No gross, not romantic adoration. I’m sure one day he’ll find a suitable wife to help continue his line. No. Rio wants adoration on mass. He wants his grandfather to gratefully beg him to take over the family business. He wants his father to fear him as he hands over the reigns. He wants the power to make great men shiver, and powerful women who melt over him. All so he can deny them what they want while he preens from on high. Is it a noble desire? Of course it is. Adoration is possibly the most noble of all desires. It is the desire to be a great man, from a long line of great men. To tell people how to run things right. Other things that drive Rio? Well I don’t know. Pleasure probably, he’s a hard worker when he wants something, but he is prone to utter laziness in all other capacities. He has no idea what a dishwasher is or why anyone would care. He has never done his own laundry, and he often does not care to help anyone without being paid to – either in admiration or cold hard cash. What use does a billionaire have for cash? None. It’s the principle of the thing. Otherwise, the economy would just cease to exist. Rio is a creature born with a silver spoon into the lap of luxury, and he knows only the greater things in life – and the things which he purchases because he can. Things he loves outside of himself? Well probably his siblings, London is his baby brother whom he tries to protect from himself. Ash is a girl smarter than her station whom he allows too much free reign and needs to be kept in line. The family is something Rio will protect at all costs, because Rio is the family. He is the heir; he is his fathers right hand man and who stands beside his grandfather as he prepares to take over their empire. A lover of fashion and all things beautiful. Rio has a weakness for flashy designs, elaborate charms, and making an entrance. What else is there to say? He is a bright fellow, with a heart of gold (unless you are an undesirable, or annoy him, or get in his way) and clearly no flaws in sight. A truly perfect man. ASPIRATION: Rio is the oldest sibling, and therefore heir to the Aurinko fortune. Their family name – a word for sun – is as golden as their bank account. As heads of the WWN (World wizarding news) they hold a majority shareholding in over a dozen subsidiaries with a diversified portfolio of companies which operate outlets in both local and global markets. These companies are primarily invested in the entertainment and news sector. They keep direct influence and accusations of monopolies abated through managing local news, and filtering their ultimate control through a mix of shell and holding companies operated through a head office in England. Many of these companies have hundreds of shareholders through IPO’s which fund most ventures. This gives the image of a diverse control and voting methods, but confidentially most of these set ups include strategically placed golden shares the structure of which is kept as need to know as they can legally get away with and at the bottoms of two- or four-hundred-page reports – giving as little disclosure as possible. One of these companies? The Daily prophet. How does this link to Rio’s aspirations? Isn’t it obvious? Rio wants to take over as CEO. But not until he had a robust background in politics. Ideally he hopes to become MOM for a few years before inheriting so he can extend as much influence as possible. And so he can rub it in everyones faces. For now, Rio is just a dutiful Auror, with a chip on his shoulder. | LIKES: - Rio Aurinko - Most of his siblings, sometimes, minus an obvious exception. - Power and using that power to make himself feel special and happy 😊 - Primary colours and smart suits - Expensive robes that say I am better than you - Icecream (but he tries to keep his weight down) - Attention -Hot chocolate -Rollarcoasters! -Hot weather -Experimenting with new charms. Charms was and is his favourite subject in school DISLIKES: - Paisleys are so last season - Brewing his own potions. Why bother if you can buy them? - London whining (both the place, and the person) - People not listening to him - A lack of drama, so dull - Muggleborns, honestly how their thievery goes unpunished he’ll never understand - Paris (both the place and the person) - Blue. Yes he is a Ravenclaw, no the colour just does not suit him. Nor does the house, he’s still convinced it was a clerical error on the schools part. His school years were truly hellish - |

CHILDHOOD. | Contrary to what people think when they meet Rio first, his childhood was not an easy one. I know, I know, poor little rich boy – but seriously. It was hard. Imagine everyone having a cutesy city name! How embarrassing? Plus, well…You see, what a lot of people don’t know about Rio is he was actually the second born. The back-up child if something went wrong. He was never destined for greatness. Fortunately, his older brother was sickly. They always needed special attention – tutors, doctors, attention and then more attention. Paris used to be stuck at his mothers side all day every day, and Rio was forgotten. For a lot of those early years his parents weren’t people he thought about a lot, or even knew. He associated parental love with the Au Pairs and Nannys. The problem with establishing a connection with someone who is an employee instead of a parent is they never know when to say no to you, and, eventually they leave. When he was eight the Nanny was fired because apparently his father was making eyes at her – something he at eight probably shouldn’t have known – he broke his heart. After that was a string of employees who seemed to care about him, but after a year or two would be gone. Rio almost never saw his family, and so he learned to ignore any feelings of attachment early in life. The few memories of his parents that he did have was of how people would fear his mother, or once after too many fire whiskeys his father sitting him down and telling him how money wasn’t what made the world go ‘round, power was. Money just let you control the power. A means to an end. With that no one could stop you. The only thing which could stop you was rejection of that power. The year Rio was supposed to start school was the year they learned once and for all Paris would never be a wizard. They gave him a choice – leave and have his memory erased, or just leave. It was an experience which impacted Rio deeply. He saw how his mother was in tears, and how his father drank to cope with the ‘death’ of the eldest. But most importantly, Rio learned the fragility of what they had. Of how relationships were built on a premise of tit for tat. If you were out of line, you were out. It was one of those formative things that would always stick with Rio, well into adulthood. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | School was a difficult time for Rio. He had the name, and the wealth, but somehow that never translated into respect from his peers. If anything their jealousy made life harder for him. Rio was the butt of all kinds of jokes – practical and other. It started off on a bad foot at the sorting ceremony, Rio had come from a long line of Slytherin’s, but apparently he didn’t have the cunning for it. Instead before the hat had even sat on his head Rio was draped in blue and shuffled off with the rest of the nerds. Rio hated it there. His parents were terribly embarrassed for him, and the worst part was he wanted to be more involved. Rio was a curious creature who liked to learn and wanted to find out everything about the world. So what ended up happening was Rio being surrounded by his favourite things, but feeling like he could not enjoy them because he was better than these other kids and their whimsical ways. As a result Rio kept trying to fit in with the Slytherin kids, and the more he tried, the worse it went. By second year he was that kid. Every school has one. The one who all the rumours float about. The one whose homework is always set with a timed conflagration charm so he would get in trouble. That kid who gets asked a question in class and can’t answer because people are already sniggering. The one who tries to show off and get in with the cool kids and is left holding the bag and taking all the blame after getting left in the forbidden forest. Then there was the school play incident…. Look bottom line? School sucked and Rio was glad to be out of there. By the times OWLS and NEWTS were happening, he just buried himself in his studies and eventually just stopped caring what others thought of him and trying to have friends. They were all jealous of him anyway. Why wouldn’t they be? He was attractive if a little heavy set, rich beyond measure, and smart enough to survive in Ravenclaw – perfection, in another word, was Rio. He expressed himself through colour, and charms and much to his surprise did incredibly well in his examinations. Charms of course would always be his best subject, but Rio did well enough that he was easily able to get assigned as an auror. |
ADULTHOOD. | Adulthood might be giving him a little too much credit, but Rio did honestly manage to get a job, and thanks to the right connections he actually held onto it. Rio started training as an auror right out of school. His grandfather told him it would give him a better reputation, then either he moved into politics for a few years, or directly into management. It weirdly suited him. Sure, he didn't cut an intimidating figure the way the others did, and he never did manage to kill his sweet tooth when the work started to stress him, but Rio was built for puzzles. While others were pounding pavement, Rio would be going through every last invoice or scrap of evidence to find the answer. When he was a trainee it damn near lost him the respect of his superiors, but one of them noticed something in him and gave him the chance. Anything was possible with some smooth jazz, a cup of hot chocolate, and an evening to while away the hours until he found that elusive answer. No one in his family thought he would, but by some stroke of luck (or a work ethic Rio pretends he doesn't have) he bungled his way into qualifying as an auror. Something he was all too happy to brag about in all the high society events and listening to the gossip. When it came to the family business Rio knew some of what went on. Usually the gossip, but certainly where the bodies were buried. He made sure to be seen at the odd meeting, even offering insight - despite not knowing any more than anyone else there. It helped to be the bosses son. The plan after this was politics, and then beginning to step more and more into the family business. But above all, Rio protects where the Aurinko's hide their secrets. |

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
”For what it’s worth-“ Paris had placed a hand on Nate’s wrist to get his attention and was already signing when the letter appeared with Brandy’s all too recognisable handwriting ”-I’m sorry. I don’t know what for yet, but presumably for something. And for the record I’m not making you.” Nate still had the potential to refuse. It wouldn’t look good, but whatever, it wasn’t about appearances.
It wasn’t like with Paris, he was one of the original founders of their little gang, he and Vito had been through a lot to see it become what it now was. Besides, he wanted to see his family. He just knew bringing Nate was a potentially dangerous proposition. Once the cat was out of the bag there was no wrangling it back in – and the Rats took allegiances seriously. It was how they survived. Paris for one wasn’t entirely convinced Nate understood exactly what that meant. When his partner made that face with those big blue eyes and that adamant proclamation that he would go Paris only rolled his eyes and grumbled, but didn’t stop him.
Was it bad that Paris was nervous about having Nate on his arm? He was not ashamed of their relationship, and it certainly wasn’t a secret. Still somehow bringing it to his family felt a like a betrayal to his deceased husband – like he shouldn’t be allowed to meet someone new and move on. Or that they might react badly to it. Even that someone had been there to help him heal. He found himself hesitating to take Nate’s hand, or stand too close, weary of the reaction he might get – which yes, he realised was both stupid and unfair.
”Who do you think Brandy had to threaten to get the streets this empty?” He wondered aloud, eyeing the windows about them as his fingers worked, remembering the days he had been too afraid to go outside when gangs of dark wizards ruled these streets, and he had the scars to prove it – now look at their rag tag gang. He pointed at Brandy and signed her name for Nate before going about trying to figure out where the alcohol was hiding. He needed a stiff drink.
