25 June 19th Unemployed Ravenclaw alum halfblood St. Mungo's | PERSONALITY: He goes by Jero as people have a hard time pronouncing his name the Dutch way. Jero once was an ambitious madman. Some say he might be a sociopath like his father as he seems to have little concern for the suffering he puts people through with his experiments. Jero does feel pity for the beings but it's all in the name of progress and development. At least that’s what he told himself to prevent hating himself. Making the pain a sacrifice is more than willing to make. Because one day the work would pay off he once thought. Since his stay in Azkaban he has lost complete touch with reality. As is the fact that he has delusions and delirium moments, talking to things that aren't there or seeing the world through a different perspective. This led to him being easily used by the cremation as their little puppet who would do their dark bidding. While he gets his validation through intimate moments, he doesn't have a large history in terms of romance and all things that come with it. This is mostly because he always puts his research first. Besides, who would want to be with a madman and a murderer? Not much dating going on in the Janus Tickery ward at all. Which is where he has been staying ever since the break out. There he has grown meek. Heavily medicated at all times, he lost the will to live as he wonders if he’ll ever see the sun again. CHILDHOOD. | Jeroen Elzinga was born the child of a pureblood witch and a muggleborn wizard. His father was a manipulative narcissist who convinced Willemijn to choose him over her family. While the love story between a pureblood and muggleborn running away together is usually very romantic, this one was not. Joris made sure Willemijn was isolated and had nobody to contact; she became dependent on him and their relationship turned toxic and abusive very quickly. She simply couldn’t escape and it became even harder when their child was born. Jeroen was born unlucky. He was blind and had other medical complications. His father called him an abomination and locked him up in a small room hoping the child would die. His mother fed him in secret and made sure he got through his first hard years. The lack of love and care during his first years in the world likely did a lot of damage to the developing child. His dad eventually came around to the point where Jero was allowed in the house. The boy did suffer from abuse by the hand of his father and was constantly told that they’d be better off if he wasn’t born. When Jero was of age where he should be walking, his parents noticed he had a hard time doing so. His legs weren’t strong enough to carry him for a long time and he spent most of his time in a wheelchair. Despite his physical obstacles, once he learned to read braille Jeroen quickly started to develop. He proved to be a curious child that picked up learning quickly. He mastered the Dutch and English language rather quickly. |
YEAR 01. | Jeroen went to Beauxbatons and was having a hard time. Not only did he have to quickly adapt to a new language but he was also bullied a lot. Not only was he blind and in a wheelchair but he also wasn’t from France and had a funny accent. He was already messed up from his home situation but this only alienated him even further. Meanwhile the teachers did speak full of praise about him. |
YEAR 02. | Most of his interest went into magical science. Potions, Dark Arts, Alchemy, Healing etc. At a young age he already became obsessed with how the human body worked and how it could be mend and improved. As no healers had been able to fix his eyes or legs, Jero took it upon himself to study. He both studied muggle health and magical health. |
YEAR 03. | With his own input and help of the best medical device creators and healers that took interest in his case, they managed to create a pair of magic eye prosthetics for him that work similarly to that of mad eye moody but looked almost real except that the pupil doesn’t dilate. It was strange seeing things for the first time. People were a lot uglier than the image he’d created in his mind. But there also were a lot of beautiful things. He learned how to read written language and could expand his book shelves. |
YEAR 04. | His fourth year was rather quiet except for the constant bullying that kept increasing the older he became. But being a nerd and wheelchair bound he was an easy target as he barely could fight back. |
YEAR 05. | His father got jealous of his success and was set on killing him. His mother came between them and got killed instead. The father calmed down but Jero lost his only ally that day. With the loss of the only love he knew, he dwelled further into the dark arts. Especially necromancy, hoping to bring her back without success. |
YEAR 06. | His bullies at school didn’t seem to stop either until one day Jero snapped and used the imperius curse for the first time to force the leader to kill his friends. Jero let the leader live with the knowledge of what he had done. The boy started attacking Jero but this time Jero fought back and didn’t hold himself in with the hexes and curses he used. It felt liberating and right. Though he wasn’t much of a duelist and the other boy nearly killed him. By this time teachers and students had gathered around. Jero was expelled and the other boy sent to the wizarding prison in France. |
YEAR 07. | Jeroen would transfer to Hogwarts to finish his newts there. He was sorted into the house of Ravenclaw. At Hogwarts he found more peace, having an actual descent last year. Making friends for the first time. He was genuinely happy, perhaps the only and last time in life he had truly been. |
ADULTHOOD. | He got into contact with one of his cousins on his mother’s side. She was a squib and suffered a similar fate to his own. She too had been hidden from the world by her parents and begged the medical prodigy to give her magic. This was something he had been pondering over but never been able to experiment on in practice. It would however frame the start of his wicked experiments. He graduated and started his official healing training at St. Mungo’s. This was easy for him so he had enough time to focus on his own studies and ark experiments. In search of immortality similar to those of vampires he ‘accidentally’ turned his own father into an inferi and kept him on a leash to mock him. He also experimented with werewolves, especially people just bitten if he could prevent infection. The biggest thing holding him back is his age. He wasn’t taken seriously anywhere and had to keep everything hidden because it was morally questionable. The more his experiments seemed to fail the more frustrated he got. While he made progress with his own legs, being able to walk for about half a day now, he wasn’t making much progress with the interesting stuff. The stuff that he believed would improve quality of life and see for a better future of humankind. His cousin died at the results of his experiments which broke his heart. He really had found a friend in her who shared his passion about medical science. He became a full fledged healer but his healing job bored him. It was just there to afford living and fund his research. Slowly more volunteers came in, Jeroen didn’t have the skills to kidnap people as he wasn’t a combat professional and didn’t have the funds yet to hire people. One of them was an almost twelve year old boy who still hadn’t been able to produce magic. Ah, another squib just like his cousin. The boy was brought in by his parents and said they didn’t want to see him back until he was normal. Jero, who believed that muggleborns and squibs were the cause of each other, started working on this new theory. With the large sum his parents healed, he could hire an assassin who snatched a muggleborn of similar age as the boy. The boy did last longer than his cousin had but the muggleborn had died rather quickly. He went to get another muggleborn but with the two years that had passed both the muggleborn and pureblood boy were deteriorating quickly. Sometimes his experiments made him sad but he always kept telling himself it was a small price to pay for how many lives could be saved and improved. Another one of his experiments, a werewolf with enlarged strength had broken from its chains and roamed free. The lab was torn to pieces as Jero was at work, unable to do anything. Jero managed to track down the werewolf and kill him as well as the other subject that had managed to escape by this happening. However, how two almost dying fifteen year olds managed to get away, he’d never know. He assumed they couldn’t have gotten far and would have died but that was one fatal mistake. As only a week later aurors stood in front of his home with a lot of questions. They found plenty of evidence, among a living human body whose entire skeleton was removed and displayed as well as the research. Fair to say Jero immediately lost his medical licence and was charged 50 years in Azkaban. He spent about a year there, quickly going insane as he didn’t have much stability to begin with. The only thing he could put his mind to was work out, trying to keep his body healthy so he could survive. And maybe one day he could continue. His escape came sooner than expected. The Dutchman was one of the criminals to get released. The cremation saw a lot of potential in his still imperfect research and he was quick to accept. Not only did he get to be a free man again, he also got to continue his research this time in a team. While he thought he would be helping people quickly he came to understand that what he was doing caused more harm than good. Still he tried to convince himself and being mad certainly helped. He was just as much of a prisoner as anyone else. He reconnected with his friend Ciaran and this truly marked the shift inside. Inside he plotted an escape with fellow scientist Nathaniel but before they could start their plan, the big break out happened. Ever since Jeroen has been in the Janus Tickery ward being declared insane. |
