traditional family. While his family was pure of blood, Elias never really saw any purism. His parents were proud of their little boy and raised him with a lot of freedom. He was allowed to play with half-bloods, muggle children even. But of course he couldn’t say anything about magic. Friends of the family and even other family members warned the ‘new generation pureblood parents’ as they often were called. There were a lot of muggleborns lately and they just could steal the magic away. When Elias was three his baby sister was born and the two were very close.

By the time of ten, Elias didn’t show any signs of magic. This really concerned the two parents. They stopped allowing Elias and his younger sister to play with muggles again and started to raise the two boys in a more purist way. Mother was often found crying, saying they doomed their child with their liberal upbringing.

Elias was still naive and couldn't imagine what kind of consequences there may be ahead of him. His parents tried everything, different wands, potions but nothing worked. It seemed that he wouldn't be able to go to Hogwarts at the age of 11. His parents came in contact with a young healer named Jeroen Elzinga who ran experiments. They heard the man was working on a new project which involved finding a cure for squibs. Seeing this as a last resort, Elias was brought to the house. His father said he didn’t have to return home until he was normal and fixed.

There he was subjected to countless experiments. They started off pretty mild but when the months went on without progress, the healer started upping the intensity and gruesomeness. The young muggleborn whose blood and organs Elias had gotten died and a new one was brought in. Grayson Cartner, a new muggleborn this time a boy of his own age was brought in and the two became close friends as they didn’t really have anyone else. Strangely enough besides the experiments the subjects were actually treated very well. They could walk freely among the house; it was just made impossible to escape. They slept in actual beds and were given decent meals. Sometimes Jeroen even called them his little brothers. This made it possible for them to survive for as long as they did. Especially with the experiments becoming more extreme by the day.

Just a little before the boys turned fifteen, they found out more experiments were going on in the underground facility as a werewolf had broken out one day. The boys were very weak at this point and could die any time, so they made the decision to escape while they had the chance as the man was away working.

They couldn’t go to St. Mungo’s in fear the man would find them so for a week they roamed the country. They did write an anonymous tip to the auror office, well Elias did because he had more experience with the magical world. Eventually they ended in Hogsmaede, a place they both fell in love with. They didn’t really have a place to go so they started working at The Three Broomsticks Inn in exchange for a room, food and a little bit of pocket money. The two boys created new identities Elias would become Rias Dubois and Grayson Cartner would become Gavin Bubois, they pretended to be brothers as by this time they literally shared each other’s blood.

The news that Jeroen Elzinga had been arrested and taken to Azkaban came as a great relief. Finally the boys could start focusing on their own lives. Rias, who always had short hair, started to let it grow out so he’d be less recognizable.

Rias seemed to medically improve, besides the nightmares and regular panic attacks he seemed to be doing better. Gavin on the other hand was quickly declining to the point they did rush him to the hospital. He died within the same day and Rias was heartbroken. It took him some time to start eating again and he lost a lot of weight because of this. Gavin had always been the confident one of the two, the slightly older one Rias could rely on. Without him around Rias was having a hard time talking to customers. But he did notice that the little extras from the tips came in handy, so he tried his best to flirt and snog with variating results.

Just this September the news broke that several inmates had escaped from Azkaban. Among them was the scientist that experimented on them. To make it worse; in the following months people started disappearing. Among them also squibs. Rias wasn’t going to let himself be captured and made up the narrative that he was a Belgian boy who stopped studying at Beauxbatons after his owls to travel. He hoped he could remember some of the Dutch and French of Jeroen to pull this off.

“Oh Ah’m definitely a smashin’ wild berry. Which flavor are you?” Maxwell went totally in on the jab. The key in life was to not take yourself seriously. It made things so much more fun when you could just have a little laugh at yourself. Every student needed a different approach did they. Maxwell actually liked his new fiery one more than he cared to admit. Much more fun than just a classic lesson.

“Sorry, buddy,” he grinned when Teddy told him to stop with the playful flirtatious. Poor little Teddy was never quite able to handle those. Even back at Ilvermorny it was fun to tease the guy. But Maxwell would stop the moment it got too far. He wasn’t going to turn into a bully. The auror laughed when the slightly younger male told him to quit the stalling. “Oi oi, tellin’ me how to do my teachin'?” He clicked with his tongue three times while shaking his head. “That’s gonna cost ya, darlin’.”

Maxwell rolled up his sleeves as he narrowed his eyes cowboy style at his student. “Can’t make any promises. It’ll all depend on how quick she picks up in this.” Of course he was just messing with them at this point. But he wasn’t going to tell them he was going to hold back. There would be no motivation in that. “Well who knows, perhaps you’ll actually be a better keeper too when we’re done,” he said playfully as he started to aim his wand. He non-verbally cast his first curse. His hand movement could give away it was the babbling curse that’d come for her. A yellow light left the tip of his wand and he watched how well she’d do with doding before throwing out his second one. This one was a red light. He then grinned at Teddy. “A wise man once told me ‘don’t do anything you’re good at for free’.” So if he wanted her dead, he’d have to pay up.
