Ranie grew up in the Roman city of Cambridge with a bit of a strict family thought her parents split when she was very young and she grew up with her father as her mother wasn't quite the motherly type but she did spend time with her. She felt quite isolated in her childhood as she was an only child and didn't really connect with the children that grew up around her who found her very strange and many wanted to avoid her. So on arriving at Hogwarts she found that she really didn't know how to interact with other people it was a bit of a surprise that she was sorted into Ravenclaw as her father had expect Hufflepuff. Though the the last three years at the school Ranie found herself and grew into her own knowing what she wanted and not really taking no for an answer not that many people like that but she was stubbon and she saw that she knew what was right for her and she was going to get it anyway she wanted. It was a lot of ups and downs over the year with bumping head with people and her views and even when it came to her learning magic even though she had read it she had felt that it could be improved somehow but she had found out the hard way that this was not always right and nearly ending up in the Hospital wing quite a bit.

It was early morning, or at least Nikki thought that it was early as the others that were in her dorm room were still asleep, they normally were awake before her. She couldn't tell if it was early or not, with no windows she couldn't even look out of a window. One of the things she hated about being in this house. It was the fact that she couldn't look out of a window and also she felt like she was trapped with no way out. She pushed herself up on the bed and rubbed her eyes and put her head on her knees and took a few deep breaths as she tried to calm herself down. She had not had the best of nights sleeps, she found it hard to sleep most days. Today was nothing different, it had been the same dream as it had been for the last seven years always on repeat.

She wanted to get out as she really couldn't talk to those in her dorm room, she couldn't open up to them and she never could, she really wanted Lux but she really didn't want to wake her and those who were in her dorm room. So the only thing she could do was to get out of the common room and see if she could go for a walk. She headed out of the dorm room and into the common room, where it looked like the house-elves had cleaned up and the fire was lit. She could sit by the fire but she really didn't want to fall back to sleep again. She didn't want her dream again where the dog attacked her and it felt like it was happening all over again. It had happened when she was eight years old when she had been in the park and it had come out of no-where and the dog had left scars up and down her back. She walked out of the common room and headed to go up to the entrance hall and to the grounds where she could walk around the lake.

As she walked out into the entrance hall she could see that the sun had only just begun to rise over the forest. She slightly smiled to herself as she headed to the lake as she liked to smell the lake and the wind on her face. It helped calmed her down and her anxiety. The remainder of that day was not good and the fact that her parents were not as caring as they should have been towards Nikki. She was sure that they blamed her for it, that she had brought it on. She shook her head as she was now beside the lake and started on the path that was around it. She took in the lake water smell and it gave her a sensation that she really couldn't explain. It was just nice to be out and seeing the morning air and being able to walk around with no-one around was Nikki's idea of peace.
