Esme had wanted to go to the festival. Lucas had been wrangled into taking her. Older brother duties. And then she ditched him as soon as she found some of her friends. That is typically of girls, after all. And Lucas does not wish to hang around the fourth year girls who tend to get high-pitched and excited about things he cannot understand. Once Esme had abandoned him and he is left with just the assortment of creatures who follow him, Lucas heads to the vendors because he wants to get Nestle and Kellogg new collars – The Department for the Care and Control of Magical Creatures told him they needed collars and licenses if he insisted on keeping them. Lucas has been raised to follow laws of the politicians given his own father’s status in the muggle world.

He’s looking at a few at the menagerie vendor when suddenly, Nestle pops out of his pocket. He spots something shiny and grabs it off the table. “Nestle, no!” Lucas shouts. He drops the collar he had been admiring to chase after the niffler. “I’m sorry. I’ll get it back!” Lucas assures the man behind the booth. He’s not aware as he runs after the creature and he runs right into a girl as she is stepping away from the booth. Lucas twists his ankle and down he goes, landing in the dirt.

“It’s fine. It’s fine.” He struggles to get up. “Did you see a niffler?”

“Thanks.” He takes her hand gratefully and uses her assistance to haul himself to his feet, wincing as he does so. Once standing, Lucas brushes off the dirt from his jeans – he prefers muggle clothing to wizard robes. “It’s just....Merlin, this Niffler is always causing trouble. His name is Nestle, by the way, and I’m Lucas.” Just in case she has forgotten his name. Sometimes people tend to do that despite being in school together for years and years. “I should have known better than to bring him down to this...there’s always something shiny afoot to catch his attention.” When it comes to talking about creatures, Lucas is golden.

He looks around at the bustling street with all the vendors and runs a hand through his dark hair. “He’s probably halfway to Gringotts by now with all the shiny things in this crowd,” he mutters, half to himself.

When he offers to help, Lucas offers her a sheepish smile. “You don’t have to help...” he pauses. “I mean, I would appreciate the help, but if you, you know, have something else to do...” Merlin. He’s terrible. His gaze flicks around the crowd in hopeful search of his missing pet. “If there’s any other jewellery vendors that’s our best bet!”
