CASSIUS VIATOR AVERY
27 SEPTEMBER 23, 1993 MINISTRY OBLIVIATOR SLYTHERIN GRADUATE PUREBLOOD GEURNSEY | PERSONALITY: Cassius is obsessed with image. While it isn't a trait that was present for a good portion of his childhood, it has taken over a majority of his personality as of late. With the pressure of being the heir to the Avery family name weighing down on him, Cassius has slowly descended into the use of shady practices to keep up appearances. Tantrums and rage-filled meltdowns are the name of the game these days, though nobody would know. The ministry obliviator uses his skill in memory charms to alter the minds of those who have witnessed his unbecoming behaviors. While he never truly subscribed to the idea that purebloods are better than everyone else, he has recently begun to play the part well. It's a startling switch for those who knew him during his school years, when he was best friends with a half-blood and a muggleborn- and absolutely smitten with the latter. Now days, however, he would never be caught associating with those of lesser status unless he absolutely had to. He's made 'pureblood' the foundation, structure, and pinnacle of his entire personality, and his lack of true friends and general morals shows it. ASPIRATION: He wants an heir. It is his basic duty as heir to the family name and he will do anything to achieve it. Being shackled to a barren wife is a setback that he has recently connived a plan to work around. | LIKES: - Tabitha Nicole Tobianski - Memory Charms - Being Respected - Power - Dark Colors DISLIKES: - His Useless, Barren Wife - Being Told What To Do - Looking Weak / Out Of Control - Disappointing His Family - That He Cannot Be With Tabitha |

CHILDHOOD. | Born the very same year that Voldemort rose again, Cassius was perceived as a gift by his parents. A sign that they were on the right and true side of the war that was to come sometime in the following years. As such, Cass was doted upon by both mother and father. When Calix was born, and shortly thereafter, Cece, Cassius still remained the favorite child. Cassius was only three years old when his father put on his silver mask for the last time and walked out the door of the Avery mansion. He doesn't remember much from that night, only that his father had put his hands on his boys' little shoulders and told them he'd see him in the morning, when the world was put right once more. Of course, the little three-year-old and one-year old had no idea what he was on about, but they believed him none the less. There was no funeral for Reinhold Avery. Cassius is pretty positive there wasn't a body recovered to bury. Perhaps they weren't allowed to have it, perhaps someone else had buried it for them. Either way, his father left one day with promises of a brighter future for 'his kind', and never returned. As he grew and came to an age where he could somewhat understand what had happened the night his father died, and more importantly, why it had happened, Cassius began to doubt the validity of the claims. If pureblooded witches and wizards were truly as superior as they claimed to be, then how was it that their army was defeated by a handful of adults and a bunch of teenagers? He never voiced his opinions to his mother, for fear of losing his status as favorite child, but the thoughts were still there none the less. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | It was no surprise to Cassius when he was sorted into Slytherin upon arriving at Hogwarts his first year. Both his parents had been Slytherin, as had many family members who came before them. There was a fair amount of distrust from some students, considering his family name and the very not-secret fact that his parents had fully supported the dark lord until the end. Even so, the young brunette boy held his head up high and completed his studies to the best of his abilities. By the time he was in his third year, the Avery boys were well-known as a pair of haughty rich boys with superiority complexes. At least, that was what Tabitha Tobianski had snapped at him just before Christmas break that year. The muggleborn girl was a force to be reckoned with. And the oldest Avery boy was smitten. He knew he'd never marry the pretty blonde girl with the pale blue eyes. But that didn't stop him from being her friend. Cassius swore up, down, and sideways that his friendship with the Slytherin girl was purely to use her to copy assignments off of. Whether or not anyone believed him- well, he simply didn't care. The duo had a third, too. A Hufflepuff half-blood who he was convinced was only there because she was in love with him. An ill-fitted love triangle, for sure. Well, perhaps best called a love teepee, since Tabitha had no romantic interest in him. That blow to the ego came early in seventh year. With increasing interest from the girl in the tri that he didn't want, Cassius decided that he'd risk getting disowned and tell Tabitha how he really felt. He shouldn't have ever said a thing. As politely as she could, the girl turned Cassius down. But the damage was done. The conversation had been overheard by someone, and had been relayed to the Hufflepuff girl. She grew jealous of Tabitha, and several arguments later, the trio became three solos. |
ADULTHOOD. | After graduation was when Cassius truly settled into his role as a good pureblood boy. At eighteen, he was betrothed to the pretty young daughter of the Max family from Scotland. At 21, when Adora turned 18 herself, the two were married. It was obvious from the start that this marriage was never destined to be a happy one. They weren't in love, and they never would be. Adora had dark hair, dark eyes, an olive complexion. Not one bit of her looked like the girl Cassius was still pining after, and he came to resent Adora for it. Still, he did his duties, performed the part of husband. He got a job at the ministry that paid well enough to afford their own home, and came home each night to make emotionless attempt to put an heir into his wife. It never worked. Month after month, year after year, she remained without child. Another thing for him to resent her for. Then a chance encounter in Diagon Alley in late summer of 2019 changed his worsening attitude. Tabitha. His beloved, beautiful Tabitha, in the flesh, standing before him in a set of blue robes complete with a pointy hat. Looking for all the world like a woman who belonged exactly where she stood, amongst the other witches and wizards in Diagon Alley. She had been cordial, and after a brief conversation had bid him farewell with invitation to send her an owl if he so wished. And boy did he wish. The rekindling of their friendship had been so easy for him. The plan formulating in his head had been easier. Tabitha could bear the son he needed. She could birth his heir, and he could claim it as his, naming Adora as the mother. She was a stay-at-home wife who only saw a select few locals in their village when she had baked good to sell. As a Ministry Obliviator and skilled memory charm caster, he could stamp down any doubts with not issue at all. The only variable to consider was Tabitha herself. She was not interested in him in that way. Not a problem in his eyes. But would she give up her child easily? He convinced himself she would hand over any baby without fuss. If he sired ten children with her, she'd act as surrogate with not a word of counter. Was it a delusional thought? Absolutely. But the time had come to put his plan into place and he was not going to back out. Now, it became a waiting game. If she bore a son, that would be it. One child to carry on the Avery legacy. And one perfect opportunity to rid himself of the wife he had grown to despise. After all, women died in childbirth all the time, right? |

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
With any other individual raised in the world Ellora had been, her clipped tone and simple explanation would have been enough. Pureblood girls rarely make their own marital arrangements. Sure, preferences and feelings are often taken into account, but at the end of the day, what the head of house arranges will be what happens.
Mariela, however, was very clearly not raised among those who learned long ago that they had no choice.
"And yet," She begins, arms crossing in a mirror move to Ellora's, "You're the one with the ring. Are you going to try and tell me they held you down and forced it onto your finger?"
Damn near the entire train car goes silent at Mariela's question. There's low, murmured conversation at a few tables, but nobody is hiding anymore the fact that they are listening to her conversation with Theo's friend. Speaking of- Ellora turns her gaze to the boy sat next to her, shifting her weight as she does so to indicate to him that she is, in fact, looking in his direction. He's facing the window, head leaning against the glass as if making attempt to see something just beyond his field of vision. It might have worked, too, to fool her, if she didn't already know that he has his eyes closed.
With a slight tilt of her head, Ellora turns her gaze on Blaise, who is looking down at the table as if the stained wooden surface is the most interesting thing on the entire planet. Ellora rolls her eyes and turns back to Theo.
"Are you really going to make me have this conversation with your friend?" She asks sharply. Theo doesn't give response. If she didn't know he was actively pretending not to hear her, she'd have been concerned. She scoffs, shaking her head in irritation as she turns back to Mariela.
"Tell me, Mariela, is it?" She starts, "If you were in my position, what would you have done?"
"Well I certainly wouldn't have accepted a marriage proposal from someone I've barely said two words to before," She counters.
"So, you'd have declined, then?" Ellora clarifies. Before she can get another word out, Mariela speaks again.
"Of course!" She gasps, as if grievously annoyed that Ellora seems to not understand how the word 'no' works, "Which is what you should have done, instead of forcing Theo into a marriage he doesn't want!"
Somewhere behind Ellora, someone lets out a low whistle. She leans forward again, sitting up straight as a dangerously dark look crosses over her expression. Annoyed, Ellora is difficult to contend with in conversation. She, as Theo had so eloquently put it, has a smart mouth. And she is not afraid to use it when necessary.
