BENJAMIN SANTIAGO VEGA CASTILLO
SEVENTEEN 26/10/2003 STUDENT SIXTH YEAR / HOGWARTS / GRYFFINDOR HALF-BLOOD HOGWARTS
| PERSONALITY:
Benjamin is a charming, social butterfly of a boy. Despite the trauma that has plagued his teenage years, he is fuelled by a determination to not let it drag him down. He has a heart of gold and finds making friends very easy. Once you have befriended Benjamin, you have a friend for life. He is incredibly loyal and any signs of disloyalty are a major deal-breaker for him. He isn't all perfect though. After a year of medical and personal trauma, Benjamin overcompensates for this by hiding his deep rooted anxiety and rejection sensitivity beneath a layer of cockiness and cheek. He would rather play up in class and make his friends laugh than be seen as a "nerd" or "loser", but unfortunately for him, this has consequences.

CHILDHOOD. | Benjamin was born to teenage mother, Aylen Vega, when she was just in her fifth year. He was taken by his grandparents Agustin and Francisca, and raised in the muggle world as though he was their own son. His infant years were uneventful, really. He saw his real mother during the school breaks and they spent time together as siblings. Benjamin was blissfully unaware of the circumstances surrounding his birth and was quite a happy little child. He enjoyed playgrounds and making mud pies for his abuelo. He attended muggle nursery and found a passion for both sports and the performing arts. His most infamous role was playing the front end of a donkey in the school play! He knew about magic, and learnt the basics in magical theory from his "sister". Benjamin admired her feats and often spent many Sunday evenings watching her cast all sorts of pretty charms for his admiration. He spent more time with her as she graduated and began her study of medicine. He often found his childhood illnesses forming interesting case studies for her, particularly the comparison of his chickenpox vs. dragonpox! It therefore came as no surprise when he received his own acceptance into Castelobruxo.

SCHOOL YEARS. | His first year was a whirlwind. He found himself exploring all sorts of branches of magic, forming a particular interest in Charms and History of Magic. He found it fascinating to learn all about the magical world, especially given he was raised in muggle surroundings. He sent many postcards back to his family. He also met his best friend, Bombón the cat.
Everything began to change on the cusp of his fifth year at Castelobruxo. Benjamin had been beginning to experiment with his identity, and of course, dating. This was something all of his peers were doing and it felt natural for him to join in. He fell for a close friend, Luca, but before they could even progress past shy glances and awkward hand brushing, tragedy struck.
Benjamin woke up one morning incredibly sick. The matron was called to visit his room and felt something serious was behind the cause of his symptoms. Benjamin was experiencing sudden kidney failure, which had shown no signs up until that day. As Benjamin got sick within Castelobruxo, the matron had no choice but to act in loco-parentis and transfer him without the consent of his grandparents to the local magical hospital in order to save his life. It was here that various tests revealed the cause: X-linked Recessive Nephrolithiasis.
It soon became clear that Benjamin needed a kidney transplant. After intense searching and frequent trial and error within his closest family members, it turned out that the most perfect match was his "sister"... Aylen Vega. This left the clinicians wondering how this could be? Such a perfect match could only come from... his mother.
The truth was soon revealed and both Aylen and Benjamin were furious. They sought comfort in Santiago and Benjamin formed an almost instant connection. He found himself drawn to Santiago, who had similar likes and dislikes and had always been a prominent figure in Benjamin's life (though it was masked as just a connection formed through Aylen's friendship).
The pair soon left their old life behind to join Santiago in Scotland. Benjamin transferred to the school and was able to join their sixth year intake. He was sorted into Gryffindor and rapidly found himself making friends with his new classmates.

Special Situations
Since his kidney transplant, Benjamin has had a more vulnerable immune system. He is likely to pick up viral illnesses much quicker than some of his peers. When he does get unwell, he finds this hits him particularly hard and he is more likely to suffer from fatigue. The healers are very attentive to his needs, however, and a short appointment will often supply him with exactly the potions and spells he needs to become better. Although they cannot prevent him from getting sick, they are able to treat his symptoms promptly and effectively.
Due to this, Benjamin may need more time to attend appointments at a short notice. This is even more important during cold and flu season.
He is mobile and remains quite stable, with yearly check-ups and access to counselling if he needs it. Nurses from Castelobruxo recommend that reasonable adjustments are made, such as special consideration for lateness and consideration during winter periods when he is more likely to get sick.
RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
Benjamin walked through the courtyard, feeling the bitter winds of November gently caress his cheeks. It was cold. He could almost hear his mother's voice in his head: "Make sure you wear your scarf!". He smiled to himself and pulled his Gryffindor Quidditch supporter's scarf a little closer around his face.
He made his way inside, tucking himself into one of the neighboring corridors. Phew. It was much warmer in here. His cat began to slink around his ankles and purr at the sudden new warmth.
"I guess it's too frosty for both of us out there, huh? Nevermind. As long as they don't cancel quidditch." he muttered to the cat and slipped his notepad out of his robes.
It was time to start making a list of things to buy people for Christmas. Obviously, the top of his list was his cat, closely followed by his parents. His parents were still pretty young, and he was beginning to wonder if they might want to go for a night out with him. And... then he realised he probably wouldn't be served alcohol. Damn. His plans were thwarted. He sighed and flipped a page in his notepad. All mothers like a hand-made gift, right? He began to contemplate what he could make his mother that year. Art was not his forté, but he had recently read a book in the library about the muggle art of Origami. Benjamin considered that perhaps an origami bouquet might be appropriate for this year's gift.
