MIAOYU "ALICE", LU
17 APRIL 19, 2003 STUDENT HOGWARTS / GRYFFINDOR / 7TH PUREBLOOD YANGJIAN PREFECTURE, CHINA / LONDON | PERSONALITY: Miaoyu, or "Alice" (Her chosen name to use in England), embodies the spirit of a wildfire—intense, fierce, and unpredictable. She is a strong-willed young woman with a temper as quick as it is fierce, and she has little patience for those she deems incompetent or beneath her. Never one to hide her disdain, Miaoyu is unapologetically outspoken about her opinions, especially when it comes to her privileged status as a member of the pureblooded upper class. Confident in her superiority, she isn't shy about wielding the authority she believes she naturally holds, expecting others to fall in line. If they don’t, she has no problem putting them in their place, using any means necessary. Born into a life of luxury, Miaoyu has grown accustomed to the finest things wealth can offer. Her parents spoiled her with lavish comforts, ensuring her every whim was catered to, whether by house elves or servants. The constant attention and flattery she received only deepened her sense of entitlement and vanity. Praised endlessly for her beauty and charm, Miaoyu has always known how to get what she wants, and when sweetness doesn’t work, her temper ensures brute force will. She's not at all shy to bully someone to fulfil her desires, and she's not one for compromise, as she's much likely to draw her wand and challenge someone to a duel (and permanently disable them,) than she is to try and settle differences. However, her privileged and pampered life didn’t make her complacent. As the youngest of five siblings, Miaoyu grew up in the shadow of her brilliant older sister, an accomplished and beautiful with, and this fueled her burning ambition. She is extremely and unhealthily diligent and driven in all aspects of life, whether it be competition, academics or magical development, and she isn't afraid if it would come at the expense of her own safety and health, the same way a fiery wildfire, no matter how bright and hot, burns itself out eventually. And all this because... She craves admiration and validation, not from a desire for personal fulfillment but to outshine those around her and secure the constant praise she secretly longs for. Her deep-rooted insecurities drive her to prove herself superior in all things. Despite her tempestuous nature, Miaoyu is surprisingly vulnerable to flattery. While she prides herself on being strong and independent, she is easily swayed by compliments and admiration. She will go to great lengths to maintain her image, even displaying bouts of extravagant generosity, as long as it wins her the praise and adoration she so desperately seeks. ASPIRATION: Miaoyu wants to be praised. She wants to be admired. She wants her parents and her older sister to acknowledge her. She will never inherit her family as clan-head, and she balks at the idea of stealing the throne from her sister, so she wants to make her own way in the world. She wants to be at the top of her class in Hogwarts, she wants to gain the approval and acknowledgment of all her professors, and she wants in her adult life to be a formidable young witch the way her sister and other historical witches such as Minerva McGonagall and Bellatrix Lestrange were. She doesn't care how she does it, as long as she gets there. She also wants to get a suitable husband. Someone who won't relegate her to becoming a mere jade beauty trophy wife. Someone who'll let her soar in the way she always believes she's supposed to, earning the applause and approval of her family and strangers alike. | LIKES: - Luxury and Opulence: Miaoyu has a particular love for high-end fashion, rare silks, velvet gowns, and finely tailored clothing. She also enjoys precious jewelry, especially emeralds, rubies, and rare gemstones that reflect her sense of superiority. She also likes dressing provocatively without being too scandalous just to get attention. - Duelling: Miaoyu's love for this sport is unnatural, and given that her family did not get sons, (who were usually expected to take this as recreational sport) She happily fulfilled that need. She is a natural duellist, and a blood thirsty one too, looking to cause as much pain as possible if someone pisses her off enough. She loves duelling and sees it as one of the best way to measure whether someone is worth of her attention or not. - Care of Magical Creatures: What patience she lacks with other people she makes up for with her love of creatures magical and mundane. She loves taking care of them and can often be found speaking of her frustrations to her pets, which she has many, including a crup and a Jarvey. - Flirting: If you're handsome and talented enough, she will likely flirt with you. She's more of a seductress siren than she is a cute flirt. She's passionate and sensual, as much as she is unforgiving and insulting. - Dark Arts: She wants power, and she wants to be admired. Given the power the Dark Arts could give her, she'll use it without question. In fact, she is an enthusiastic lover of the dark power it can give people, and she's arrogant enough to think that she's unlike other people who have been wounded by this vicious branch of magic, that she can master it the way the dark witches and wizards of old did. DISLIKES: - Weak people: She dislikes spineless people who can't stand up for themselves, and is of the opinion that if you allow her to bully you, then you deserve to get stepped on by her repeatedly. -Rejection: Since she’s used to getting her way, being refused or denied something she desires triggers her anger. Rejection, in any form, wounds her pride and can lead to outbursts. Often violent ones. -Rivals or Being Outshined: Miaoyu is fiercely competitive and doesn’t like being outshone, particularly by those she considers her equals or inferiors. She has a deep need to be the best and struggles with jealousy when others surpass her. -Being Ignored or Overlooked: Miaoyu despises not being the center of attention. If someone ignores her or fails to acknowledge her presence, it deeply frustrates her. - Ill Manners: As viciously angry as she usually is, she learned how to do it while keeping to proper Pureblood Etiquette. Seeing someone doing too much without finesse just annoys her. |

CHILDHOOD. | Lu Miaoyu was born on a sunny day to the Lu Clan. An old, impoverished Chinese Wizarding Clan that was once thought extinct after losing a shadow war with their competitors. However, they're currently experiencing windfall and a return to their once great wealth through the leadership of Lu Guang, who pulled the family off the brink of irrelevance and destruction, and Lu Guanxi, the one who stabilized the family and is starting to refill their coffers and gain back the prestige they once lost. Lu Miaoyu's birth was a difficult one, and Park Seo-yeong, a prominent scion of a Korean Wizarding Clan and mother to Miaoyu claimed that her child Miaoyu fought her every minute of her childbirth. It's not far from the truth, considering that once she entered the world, her loud cries irritated and annoyed even the experienced Healers attending to her mother. The rest of her young life didn't mellow her out, at all. Her mother claimed that she often kept her servants up at night by refusing to stop crying, and that she was inconsolable by everyone except her father, who she loved even from a young age. Her mother always said that her first word had been "no," and that she often said no, but that it greatly upset Miaoyu if she's the one being told no. She was a stubborn and passionate child who refused to follow her tutors, she was petulant and disobedient to even her mother, only listening to her grandfather, father, and oddly enough, the sibling that came after her, Yanmei, who she seemed awfully close to. Ever since she learned to walk and talk, she's been a terror in the household, but that for all her tempestuousness and her love for disobedience, she was a quick, strong and clever girl, as similar to her more grounded favorite sister in talents as she was different in demeanor, which is what spared her from the most terrible of consequences of her action. Bold and courageous, she snuck out to ride on her grandfather's winged Abraxian at age six to the horror of her servants, and on their way to a Magical Enclosure, she fearlessly snuck in a dragon's cage and smacked it right on the nose. Thankfully, she was retrieved by her guardians before the dragons could eat her, but not before she called the dragon "an ugly overgrown lizard," She insisted on following her sister Yanmei around for her lessons, and to her mother's surprise, she proved just as engaged and eager to learn the more "subtle" arts she taught them. She learned her Hanggul well, and excelled in her dance lessons, and ably took to her tutoring in etiquette, as she claimed that "a lady as beautiful as me needs to always be prepared as we will always be noticed," |
SCHOOL YEARS. | Come schooling, her father wished for her to attend the school closest to them, while her mother wanted her to be homeschooled like her other siblings. Funny enough, she claimed that she wanted to study in Durmstrang, but both her parents flatly refused. However, she never took 'no' well and came running to her grandfather, who doted on her even more than her father did to take her side, which he did. The resulting argument caused a fourth option to be put forward: Hogwarts. Given that some respectable scions in their region of the world studied in Britain to refine their skills and knowledge, this was the only option acceptable to all of them, and so it was decided that she'd study at Hogwarts. During her sorting, she was a hatstall between Slytherin and Gryffindor, but the Hat eventually settled on Gryffindor. Of course, her mother's hope that school would mellow her out did not come to fruition, as she became worse than she was at home. She was a vicious woman who loved to make her opinions known and bullied other people she viewed as weaker than her relentlessly. She got into many, many fights during her younger years at Hogwarts, which is why she insisted on learning how to duel. That was a terrible choice for all involved, as it gave her another avenue to exert her authority, given that she was a natural duellist. Her temper only made her better at Duelling, and she got into her fair share of detention because of her habit on going overboard and injuring her opponents, though she will privately admit that some, if not most of those injuries were intentional. And given how quick she was to take offense and find insults (Even when none was intended) and how she blatantly refuses to compromise, she's much more likely to draw her wand to challenge someone to duel her than she is to try a peaceful solution. Her desire to be admired and be the center of attention also meant that she threw herself completely into her studies. She wasn't bookish like her sister, but she made up for it in effort, and the effort she put in to excel at her schoolwork was unhealthy. She spends many sleepless nights just to make sure she's at the top of her class, not for her personal fulfillment, but because she likes holding it above other people, about how much better she is than them and how because of this, a brilliant and beautiful witch like her deserved everything they didn't. As she gotten older though, she developed a fascination with the Dark Arts. At first it was mere academic interest, but like most people, she was engrossed in the power it gave and could potentially give her. |

"If that's everything, then you're all free to go." Ethan spoke, his back turned on the Dueling Club. He heard murmurs and small talks as the rest of the students walked away, leaving Ethan to wipe the chalk board with the flowing text alone. It was one of his most therapeutic moments, teaching the Dueling Club. It allowed him to impart wisdom on people who were actually interested in learning more about the methods of Dueling, something Ethan loved with his entire heart. As harsh as he was with teaching, he did have their best interest at heart.
Taking a step back from the board, Ethan lifted his white wand up and flicked it in midair, causing the dummies, hit repeatedly by hexes and jinxes to slide back into place, with the sign up parchments arranging themselves and laying on top of the desk. Of course, Ethan had been quite the duelist for ages. So refined was his instincts and reflexes that he knew someone stayed behind and was looking at him as he fixed up after his club.
"Yes?" Ethan asked, not bothering to look at the person who stayed. It wasn't like they'd attack him, after all. Ethan believed that no one would be stupid enough to do that. And besides, with Quidditch Coming up, Ethan knew he had to head down to the field to practice his flying. He didn't want to fail Albus or Tecwynn in his first game as Seeker, after all.
The person's words made Ethan pause, and he slowly looked back to glance at the woman with impassive eyes. He noticed her. She sat by and looked at them from afar without participating. And far be it for Ethan to force engagement. He idly glanced at the woman, remaining quiet, leaning back on the desk and using his palm to support his weight while still keeping his gaze trained onto the woman. "You would have known I'm leading this club if you bothered to read the sign up sheet properly," Ethan blandly replied, "I don't have to prove anything to you, you're welcome not to return." He didn't suffer for a loss of members, Ethan quietly walked past her, but his hand was in his robes, grasping the Aspen wand in case the girl tried to pull anything when his back was turned.
"But if you're going to insist," Ethan spoke and paused by the doorway, "Meet me by the Black Lake. And I don't duel for sport, whenever I duel, I don't stop until my opponent submits, or up until they can't fight anymore. So take of that what you would," With that, he turned around, raised his wand, flicked it, and simultaneously, the torches lighting the room went out, leaving it in complete darkness.
---
Ethan was at the Black Lake, his arms crossed about his chest. His robe was discarded, leaving him in the plain, school-approved shirt underneath. Visible on his right hip was the dragonskin wand holster which housed his aspen wand. His hair was bound in a tight bun behind him, and the tall boy quietly waited for his opponent, eyes roaming around the area, trying to remember every detail of it.
