22 JULY 23, 1998 OBLIVIATOR HOGWARTS GRAD HALF-BLOOD ENGLAND | PERSONALITY: Haydin is shy and spunky. She loves giving people the help they need if she can offer it and loves nothing more than her friends. At first she was too focused on her studies and obsessed with memory spells to really make any friends or have any fun, but that changed and she realized happiness and joy are the most important things in life. Making good memories is #1. Haydin does her best to stay happy, especially out in public, but she can easily be found drifting her eyes off into space and losing focus in a conversation. She enjoys nothing more than a deep conversation with someone, especially if she can help them in some way by having that conversation. Though she tries to be kind to everyone at first meeting, she is very careful not to disclose her own tormented past without a deeper relationship being formed. Haydin isn't secretive, but she knows how to keep secrets when she deems it necessary. Her lack of immediate trust is what protects her, and her strong loyalty, after it's earned, can rarely be broken. If found alone, or in a place where she meant to be alone, she can be quite the opposite of her kind and happy self. She often finds herself struggling with the ability she has to erase her own memories, to be rid of the torments of her past. This idea often overcomes her, and she locks her wand away, hoping to escape the temptation. When these episodes arise, she prefers to be by herself. Someday she hopes to seek the comfort of friends instead of withdrawing. ASPIRATION: Haydin would love to fall in love again, but she fears that she has the inability to do so. Her deepest, deep desire is that her Hogwarts sweetheart isn't really dead as was perceived by his regiment, but she can't believe that is a realistic wish. If she fell in love again, she hopes that love would be as exciting and magical as her Hogwarts sweetheart and wants to be able to lean fully into that. She would love to be able to open up to someone about her first love and be able to be respected for that love she still carries for someone that she has lost. The right person would be able to accept that about her, as she would accept their past too. She hopes to be able to adapt her grief into a more open atmosphere with her family and friends. She also dreams of a life where she and her sister are able to be closer, and she's being trying to do that by getting closer to her sister's kid. She doesn't feel like her and her mother will ever reconcile, but at least she can fix things with her sister eventually. | LIKES: - memory magic - High Heels - Letter Writing - Hard candies with soft centers - loyalty - heartfelt talks - pleasure - dreams - reading - singing - bubble gum DISLIKES: - pity - goodbyes - shame - cowardice - masochism - fear - her mother and father |
FAMILY MEMBERS. | South Voeller, Father, 50ish, wizard, imprisoned in America Katarina Voeller nee Cooper, Mother, muggle 50ish, Socialite Sister, 24, mother of one, former Ravenclaw Niece/Nephew, 8 years old Sgt. Ian Thomas Morris, Hogwarts sweetheart, presumed dead at age 21 (one year ago) |
CHILDHOOD. | The Voeller family has a way of making things complicated even when it's completely unnecessary to do so. Her parents dramatically eloped, even though her grandparents really didn't have an issue with them getting married, South and Katarina acted like they were going on some secret, wistful adventure by eloping and shoving it in their families faces. The couple fed on each others dramatic natures and boy, it was a hot mess. They lived in Indiana for a few years in a small town and had two daughters. Her father was a muggle and a businessman ... or so that's what they all thought. Haydin was never that close to her parents, her older sister being more of the golden child, but she still felt sickeningly betrayed when the truth finally came out. Her father had hidden from them that he was actually a wizard who wanted to expose wizardkind and the process he went by doing this was joining a magical terrorist group that killed and caused havoc, all to try and get MACUSA to notice them. But, since they lived in such a small town MACUSA didn't come in to interfere as much as they hoped. So, when Haydin was around ten, her fathers group took their escapades to New York... and were promptly all caught and put on trial. Her father was sentenced to life imprisonment, with the possibility of death. When the truth came out, Haydin was nine years old and sunk into a dark place emotionally along with her mother and sister. Her mother was so embarrassed and furious that she moved the family to Surrey, England claiming her children would never set foot inside MACUSA or Ilvermorny for fear of their family name being slandered to pieces. Her mother became a harsh dictator in their household and her sister a neurotic mess. Everything Haydin knew descended into chaos. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | She was accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin. She wasn't bothered by that at all, she liked what the house stood for. Her sister being in a different house was nice too, she didn't want to be babied or watch her sister interact with other people... she didn't trust her. Not because she was cruel, but because she was constantly worried and couldn't keep a secret. Haydin needed stronger company than that. However, when her sister became pregnant in her seventh year, Haydin took it upon herself to be there for her sister for the first time in years. Her sister graduated two years before Haydin, moved in with her boyfriend and is now raising the baby. Haydin loves them, but still doesn't trust them with her own thoughts and feelings because of her sisters more manic phases during their childhood. Haydin remembers every dark moment of their childhood, every emotional scar and scary moment. Sometimes she thinks her memory is almost too good. That's why she got interested in obliviating. She thought it would be amazing if all those terrible memories could just be ripped away into oblivion? While she was at Hogwarts, she obsessed over it. Her teachers called it a “noble but heartbreaking profession.” She never understood what they meant. Who wouldn’t want a job saving people, teaching them how to start anew by erasing their memories completely? After her first year of working hard and rarely speaking to anyone, she started to realize that she lacked a social life. Over the summer, she prepared myself to balance things better when she got back to school. Finally, September came and she prepared herself to befriend the other children her age. Her first class the first day of school was potions with the Gryffindors. As an attempt to befriend someone, she sat next to a Gryffindor boy named Ian and they became fast friends. Through the following months she made many friends, Ian and others as well. She found it was easy to talk to muggleborns, who were indifferent to blood status and raised more like she was. Haydin never really realized what good memories looked like and until these years at school, and her obsession with memory erasing became less important. Though, it still sparked her interest. Come fifth year they all became even closer, and started coupling off. Haydin had never been one to really look at love as an important thing at that point in her life, but Ian made it hard to resist. He often pulled her aside to tell her secrets and rumors. He always enjoyed a scandal. He’d beg Haydin to come watch his Quidditch matches and cheer when she entered a room. He was so full of fun, of life and of love that she fell for him quickly and they kissed that year, under the mistletoe. That is just how he is; he likes to make everything like an old movie. The next two years were a blur. Kissing behind the Quidditch stands, sneaking into the forest, snogging in a booth at The Three Broomsticks. All along while she learned more and more about obliviation, starting to learn the difference between when it was beneficial and when it was not. Being older, she was starting to learn that erasing your past just for the sake of not having pain is a mistake, though it is still tempting. Did you know that the average soldier spends four to eight years in the army? That was one of the small facts Haydin learned from Ian during seventh year. He couldn’t wait to go. His father had served all his life, and his mother supported it one hundred percent. When they found out their only son was a wizard, they were excited, but still expected him to serve. Ian never acted as though they forced him though and he wanted to join of his own accord. He knew everything about the British Army. He grew up learning to respect and love it. Haydin loved that about him. His passion. |
ADULTHOOD. | Come May, when they graduated, Ian had two months before he would serve. They started writing letters and Haydin started training to be a professional obliviator for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. It seemed a noble cause to use her obsession and skill for that department, considering it was mostly saving the secrets of the wizarding world. Doing the opposite of what her father had done. Ian often wrote that she should move on, and find someone else. His first bought in the army would last eight years, he said. Eight years away from home with only a few visits in the middle. Haydin tried to do what he said, she even dated a few people, but she struggled. She just wanted to be with him. That’s all she ever wanted from that moment fifth year, when he kissed her. It was two years until she saw him again, and he only came back for one week. She didn’t waste any time that week, of course. They were only 20, missing each other and madly in love. They spent the entire week in her flat in downtown London. She had move away from her mother the minute she turned seventeen, and she has barely spoken to her since. But more importantly, she had somewhere to be alone with Ian. 1 more year of writing, and that’s when the letter came. It was so formal so... cold. "We are grieved to inform you that Sgt. Ian Thomas Morris, 3495960, is missing in action and presumed to be dea-." She stopped reading after that. She stopped thinking after that. She stopped breathing after that. 1 year layer, she still works as an obliviator. She looks in the mirror every morning and tells herself not to erase it. Her parents, her memories...him. |
Special Situations
Haydin did not have any special situations that needed to adapt her learning during school. As an adult in grief, she has been in counseling provided by her workplace.
RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
It was ths summer before fifth year, and the Lestrange family was vacationing with the Jones family (among with some other pureblood magical beings who joined), as they always did. This year was Santorini, Greece. They'd been there before, just not with this big of a group. Five families, one giant villa... it was insane.
Andy was sitting in the corner, wearing a white beach dress and sipping a glass of Prosecco her mother had allowed her to have. She was eyeing Riley across the room. "You need to talk to him, Andromeda," her mother had reminded her. "Learn to like him."
Andy rolled her eyes, tilting her head and fixating her eyes on Riley a little longer. She was good at avoiding him at Hogwarts but at family functions it was... more difficult. She set her glass down and deliberately turned her head toward another friend of the family. "Hey Mason, come here," she called out to him. The boy approached her and she leaned forward, batting her eyelashes at him. She held her hand out and caught his fingertips, "want to go for a swim later?"
Aaaand she could hear her mother scoff from across the room. Mission accomplished.
------
Hours later, nearing midnight, she snagged a bottle of white wine from the pantry and took a walk along the grounds. A lot of people in the villa were still awake and partying, but she gardens were mostly empty -- until she saw Riley. "Hey," she greeted awkwardly, holding up the bottle, "thirsty?"
