CHILDHOOD. | Born October 10TH, 1992 just outside of Blackpool, England, UK to a very young Maribel and Bryson Pragett. The first 10 years could be considered uneventful and normal for the most part. It was just the three of them. She had known that both parents had been disowned by their family. They rarely talked about them. The child never lacked necessities, and even had several of her wants filled. That is, so long as the activity or object (and by extension her) did not require too much of their time or attention. Maribel and Bryson were still very much in love with each other and often acted like newlyweds up until the end. By all accounts it was 11 years of bliss. It was on their annual cruise from shores of England to France that Lydia’s biggest life change was to take place. It was only 3 days in that the Nanny gave her the news. Her parents were to never return. Case Workers never offered the details as to exactly what the cause of the disaster was, and she never asked. Knowing they were gone was enough. The why never mattered, so she never bothered to ask. For the remaining 11 months, until her 12TH birthday, she passed the time by attending a muggle boarding school. One of her boarding schoolteachers was even kind enough to open her home for the summer. The first day at Hogwarts was one of the most exhilarating days of her life. She belonged. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | Lydia soon settled into Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor. Luckily her parents' estate was enough to cover Tuition and Books. Being resourceful she quickly realized that she could make pocket money by reading material and writing notes and summaries for other students that had better things to do with their time. By third year she was also doing some tutoring. She thrived on the structure, expectations, and responsibilities. Though, most days she was grateful that she didn’t have the same family pressures to succeed that most of the others seemed to struggle with. She had no family expectations to meet and most of her instructors liked her well enough. She neither stood out nor vanished into the crowd. It was in the 5th year that Lydia discovered her true passion. One that she would share with her mother, the healer. It was a day that would change a lot of people's lives. Of course, this was the Hogwarts battle of May 1998. Everyone knows a lot of the major details and has heard the stories of many of the heroes that stepped up that dark day. Lydia saw it all firsthand. Being a simple fifth year, she was among those still considered children whisked off to Hogsmeade for safety. She saw the terror, the uncertainty, and powerlessness all around them. She could see that the Healers of all kinds were reigning in what they felt in order to help the students. She witnessed them building up their own strength, just to give it to those who were not as strong yet. She wanted to be that. She wanted that gift. Soon Lydia found herself assisting them where she could, comforting the younger ones, and in general making sure everyone knew they weren’t alone. This changed her life. This would be a path she knew was the start of a forever journey. |
ADULTHOOD. | After Graduation Lydia joined a couple of different apprenticeship programs. The first was based in Australia, the more recent one took her to New Zealand for a few years where she found drawn to the field of Psychology. She found the work there fulfilling, and she felt more at home than she had since Hogwarts. Lydia even managed to work her way up into a Department Head position. Unfortunately, there was a supervisor who decided that she needed to add some extra tasks to her job description if she wished to keep the position. These were requests certainly not listed in any employee handbook. The supervisor of course was good, and she knew that any report would simply be he said/she said situation. It was also clear which of them was more expendable. Not only that, but once word got out, she reported him she knew how it would go. If they believed her, and he was fired, she would probably been seen as someone who probably asked for it. And if they didn’t, well then, she would be a troublemaker. Lydia could read the writing on the wall and knew it was a no-win situation. So, she turned in her resignation, and then a week later filed an official incident report with the facility remotely. Lydia reported the sexual harasment in detail. She was careful to include times, dates, as well as the clear description that she found herself in. They could do with it what they wish. So now what was a single, childless girl to do but start over with a clean slate? Where better to do that than London? |

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
Walking quickly along the cobble stone streets, Lydia slipped into Sparky’s. The friendly St. Mungos’ receptionist had recommended. The bright green door was just far enough away that she shouldn’t run into anyone who worked there.
Stepping inside and letting the door close quietly behind her she took in the surroundings. There were a few booths along one wall, around 5 tables with chairs set down in the middle, and a long-polished bar lined with high wooden barstools.
Lydia wandered over to find her place at the far end and hopped up on the barstool. The sound of high heels sending an echo in the next to empty establishment. Taking a deep breath before looking up at the bartender and making eye contact. “Could I get a mead and a shepherd's pie if you do that sort of thing”. With a half smile, Lydia’s gaze dropped to the want Ad’s in the Daily Prophet. She wasn’t too sure how the interview had gone. It felt promising but you never knew. It would be best to keep looking.
"Tough day?” A woman asked attempting to strike.
Turning towards the sound of the voice that seemed to be asking her a question. Lydia wrestled with the idea of using her “Why are in you in my world” face, before deciding that distractions wouldn’t be a bad thing at the moment. In Fact, a heartfelt laugh escaped. “That obvious?” Almost unconsciously her legs stretched, her feet flexed, and the torture devices on her feet fell to the tiled floor. “Whomever invented job interviews obviously was into some sadistic stuff”
The woman grinned at the laugh and nodded. "Want something a little stronger to help take the edge off?" She asked. "Where are you applying?"
“Oh, just about everywhere. I just came from St. Mungo’s. It was the most brutal one yet.”. Noticing the team jacket Lydia added “I take it that you play quidditch? Or are you the Team Manager?” At this point the public conversation might be annoying others, so she stood up and took the seat next to a sweet looking young girl with a pixie cut. “I’m Lydia”.
"Everywhere huh? What do you do that you interview everywhere?" "Falcon's Keeper. Lex Laskin. " she said, offering her hand.
Making herself comfortable, “Very nice to meet you Lex” setting the heels down beside her still bare feet. “I am in Psychiatry but, it’s coming to the point I will take just about anything. And I don’t drink anything stronger any place I hope to show my face in the future.”. The barkeep set the shepherd's pie down in front of her. Before the urge to just dive in became overwhelming she asked “I’m sorry. Did you want anything? My treat?”
Lex watched the woman for a moment, "Psychiatry...too much schooling for me. “I'm set, thanks. Don't eat much after a game, adrenaline and pub food doesn't sit well. Alcohol on the other hand...Staying local?"
