The Second Task: Wayward

Hogwarts transformed it’s grounds into a beautiful intricate maze filled with twists, turns and challenges around various corners. Each of the champions were given their choice of guide to help them navigate through the maze and some of these guides seemed not to know which way was up or down as they navigated their champions right into dead ends. Oops!

This task challenged champions knowledge and skills in similar ways as the last one, but also challenged their courage and nerves as they navigated the dark in silence and solitude (aside from their silent guides). Despite having some rather difficult paths ahead of them, and some champions finding themselves going around in a complete circle a time or two, all the champions made it to the finish line with the roar of applause.

Here’s what a few of the champions have to say about the task.

“Well the most challenging part of the maze for me was being alone you know. I'm much more extroverted and enjoy company. Having Deri around was great though he was really a joy to work with and I would love to see the rest of the D's. Running into Ralph towards the end made it a bit easier and I'm honestly happy to have finished with such a strong competitor at my side." - Gabriel Guerra

“I am very much hoping I have been doing well. I am of the understanding that I exited first, but we shall be seeing how the points have me standing. The task was being, eh, how you say, not easy or impossible, but very challenging. I am being very happy to be no longer doing it, though, as I am sure is understanding.” - Wolfgang Kessinger

“The Maze was quite a challenge and quite overwhelming at times. It did start to get to me towards the end. My guide was a tremendous help for me and got me through the maze. Over all this was a really fun and existing task that was good and challenging.” - Naliaka Otieno

“I think I did alright with the task. I think it was really easy to get into my own head while inside the maze and I definitely second guessed myself a few times, but I'm proud of what I accomplished out there, regardless of how I faired.” - Gabriel Chevalier

The Hog's Head New Ownership

No one even knew The Hog’s Head was up for sale until witnesses spotted a man and a woman prowling around the place cleaning up the shambles of the old establishment and making it new again. A fresh coat of paint. A bright new sign that can be seen from a distance. Expansion in the back. New furniture and even clean windows indicated that yes, someone new now owned the old building once belonging to Aberforth Dumbledore and served as a hide out for the Golden Trio.

Twenty-Seven year old; Jersey Rhodes, and thirty-one year old; Maddox Llewelyn, are the co-owners of The Hog’s Head. Llewlyn is a former Hogwarts student who spent a good amount of time here in Hogsmeade during his school years while Rhodes is a wayward traveller who never gradauted from any magical establishment. The two claim they are not a couple but shared the same dreams that brought them together to purchase the establishment.

“Maddie and I met on our own journeys of self discovery and that discovery lead us to--”

“The night life. The Wizarding World is sorely lacking in night life and I decided that running a pub and making it something hip and new was something the whole of the wizarding community could do with.”

“I’m just along for the ride and the cats!”

There you have it folks, from the mouths of such an adorable couple! The Hog’s Head is set to host a grand re-opening some time in February. Keep an eye out on the date so you don’t miss out on this lavish addition to Hogsmeade.

Ilvermorny Eliminated

Unfortunately, with only one task left to complete, the Ilvermorny champion, Jack Adelinde, has withdrawn from the competition. A family emergency called him back home to America thus leaving his school without their champion. Judges opted not to sub in another champion who might be unprepared for the fame and fortune when the tournament will be coming to an end with only one task left to complete. Good luck, Jack, we wish you the best and hope all is well with the family. Here are a few kind words from your fellow champions.

Madame Puddifoot's Speed Dating

Leading up to the lavish Valentine’s Day Gala, Madame Puddifoot’s is hosting it’s second annual Speed Dating Event. Members of the community who wish to participate should have had their applications in a week ago and will likely be anxiously waiting to find out who their matches are and see it they are their perfect match. The event is hosted daily for a week prior to Valentine’s Day to give singles a chance to make new connections and increase their odds of finding a special someone to spend Valentine’s Day with. Madame Puddifoot’s is known for it’s feminine, romantic vibes and during the month of February, it’s always packed to bursting with couples. Keep following the Daily Prophet and Witch Weekly for more updates on how this event is proceeding.

Talent Scouts

With the end of the school year creeping up quickly, it's already February! Talent scouts have been visiting Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in search of new players. Already there's been some rumours of one Remington Grebe being looked at, as well as Have-Soon Hwang. Those these are just rumours, Hogwarts players looking to pursue a career in Quidditch post graduation had better be playing at their best!

Quidditch Appearances

Caerphilly Catapults will be at Quality Quidditch Supplies. They are having a great season so far and displaying new robes for the next season. Come on down meet the players and see what the new robes are all about.

Euro Qualifiers

There are a few Qualifying games left and the last few teams are yet to get in. So now we have Serbia vs. Belarus and Switzerland vs Liechtenstein. Both games were prolonged to start with but they did get there in the end. There were some good goal shots but neither game was frilling. All sides were fighting to get into this tournament for this summer.

Other News

Euro Champions League is coming on well as teams from all around Europe are now fighting to make it to the final of this historic league. Bigonville Bomber took on Tutshill Tornados in a fantastic match. Even a chaser from each side had some nasty bludges that looked like they nearly got knocked of their brooms. But this game was down to who got the snitch fast enough and it was Bigonville Bomber of Luxembourg.

World News

It was Australia Moutohora Macaws taking on New Zeeland Wollongong Warriors in an epic friendly match. This seems to go back for a few years between these two teams. This game went on for several hours and it looked like it was going to go on into the night as neither team seemed to be getting a whole of the snitch or it looked like either seeker was blocking the other. In the end, it was New Zealand's Wollongong warriors that got the snitch in the end.

Quidditch Gossip

It’s not just Izanna Kingsley up close and personal with Leah Silvias. Alexandra Laskin has been seen in private company with former Falcon’s seeker, Santiago Castillo, and current Falcon’s seeker, Giselle Fray. Fray denies any salacious allegations. It would seem, from these reports, the Falcons are a close knit team.

The Twisted D's

It’s no secret that years ago, Dakari Suco left the Twisted D’s to pursue a solo career. The real mystery is why did he leave? Was it jealousy? Could be. Sources say that Dakari and DJ were seen making out at a club recently, however, another source claims there’s something brewing between Diesel and DJ. Which is it? Perhaps both? Dakari could be back to stake his claim on the wild diva and shove Diesel out of the spotlight.

Knockturn Alley Suspect of Crime

Once again, the name Alexandra Laskin hits the news as she was rumoured to be coming out of Knockturn Alley and looking a little unwell – we don’t just mean under the influence of too much drink. Knockturn Alley has, and likely always will, have the reputation for being a notorious place of crime, dark magic and dangerous people. The question begs; what was Laskin doing in Knockturn Alley? She was definitely not picking up new quidditch gloves, that’s for sure. Is there something fishy happening down that dark and twisted alley? Should the Auror’s Office be alerted? Madame Puddifoot's Speed Dating

The second annual speed dating event at Madame Puddifoot’s was, once again, a success. The teashop was packed full of singles, including some famous names such as Quidditch stars Santiago Castillo, Alexandra Laskin and Izanna Kingsley along with former singer/songwriter Dakari Suco and actor London Aurinko, best known for her performance as King Arthur in The Merlin Trials.

Love might not have been in the air, or Cupid was busy elsewhere, it certainly seemed like the participants ranged from having a good time to being downright heartbroken. Here’s a few of the highlights from the events:

“It was an all right night despite sitting out a few rounds. There just does not seem to be a promising pool of single women. The gals I met were nice enough but there were no sparks.” - Izanna Kingsley

Santiago Castillo and Dakari Suco were both participants even though the two seemed to be already involved in a romantic relationship. Not surprisingly, the duo broke up with Castillo dumping a drink on Suco’s head and then slinking off into the men’s room with another participant. That was NOT a match made in heaven and plenty of questions arise as to why the duo came to a dating event when they were already dating... Did Suco know Castillo was less than faithful and easy to move on to the next rebound? Well, Suco certainly moved on quickly as well, don’t worry Castillo!

“I would definitely talk to all of the girls I met again.” - Andrew Douglas

“I made out all right, though, there should be better screening for these things.” - London Aurinko

Alexandra Laskin seemed to enjoy her date with Duncan McGregor until the young man’s true nature came out and he fed on her. She was rescued by Gianni Amadori and once recovered shared a rather intimate kiss with Hawthorne Huntington – who was not even her date! Spectators say it was one heck of a kiss!

“I left right after the first round. Andrew was quite lovely but I wasn’t feeling great. I am just glad my cousin seemed to get a few good dates in. Jasper is so shy.” - Lux Belanger

Missing Child

Following the murders of her parents in Knockturn Alley, two-year-old Elizabeth Ann Markel from Whitstable has gone missing. Based on evidence left at the scene, the child is assumed to have been present when the murders occurred. The child is approximately 85 cms and weighs 11 kg. She has shoulder length auburn hair and chocolate brown eyes. It is unknown what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance. The child is the daughter of Franco and Isabella Markel who were discovered brutally murdered in Knockturn Alley. The aurors working on the case would not release any additional details related to the murders.

Hogwart’s Valentine’s Day Gala

The Valentine’s Day Gala at Hogwart’s was not nearly as popular as the previous Yule Ball but at least no one spiked the punch with love potion and caused the ball to be shut down and the school investigated. Seems we’ve learned our lesson from a few years ago.

Lovers were present and the romantic boat rides seemed to be a hit as couples flocked to them for a chance at privacy and romance. Some Gala highlights:

Giselle Fray, famous Falcon’s Seeker, was drinking her way through the refreshments with an unknown, beautiful companion.

Nathaniel Kingsley was at the Gala on the arm of Rio Aurinko? The press is still questioning this, but unfortunately, Rio took sick mid-event, and neither man could be questions.

This year’s Sweetheart’s King and Queen are Yuhwa Beatrix Hwang and Tae-Il Chae.

Auror Attacked

An identified individual has reported the attack on an Auror in Knockturn Alley. According to the eyewitness, Phoenix Zabinski, owner of the Wyvern was seen slamming the unknown auror into the wall of the alley. There are no more details of the attack and Zabinski has yet to be detained.

Quidditch Scouts

The scouts have been out to a number of Quidditch games at Magical Schools around the world but the names being talked about the most right now are Remington Grebe and Hae-Soon Hwang from Hogwarts. Hae-Soon Hwang is the Captain and Chaser for the Slytherin House Team and has lead her team to consecutive Quidditch Cups at Hogwarts. Hae-Soon is described as a fierce and terrifying Captain who pushes her team to excel beyond their imagination. Remington Grebe is the Captain and Beater for the Hufflepuff House Team and although the team has not won a Cup since he became Captain, it is rumoured that the odds are in their favour this term. Remington is described as a Captain who inspires his teammates to play hard and play honest.

Scouts have hinted that Hwang is being scouted for a possible spot on one of the South Korean Quidditch teams while Izanna Kingsley has been in touch with Grebe about playing for the Falcons.

Quidditch Players

It looks like some of the players from Quiberon Quafflepunchers in France will be heading to Quality Quidditch supplies to show their team robes and the latest Broom coming out of France. Get on down to Quality Quidditch Supplies over the weekend to see what is on offer.

Falcon's Beater Retiring?

Rumours are circulating about Falmouth Falcon's Beater Raymond MacDonald is retiring from the team. Ray, as friends and teammates call him, has been with the Falcons since he began his Quidditch Career ten years ago. Lately, Ray has struggled with a gambling addiction that has jeopardized his career with the Falcons and put him in a bad place among his team mates. It seems like there's going to be a spot on the team opening up, is this one potentially going to Hogwart's Graduate, Remington Grebe?

World News

Haileybury Hammers played Moose Jaw Meteorites in a late game coming out of Canada. Seemed like these two teams had some heat in the past as neither side was letting up. Though there was goal after goal from both sides. Neither team seemed they could find the snitch. What felt like hours later than the Moose Jaw Meteorites final got the snitch at the edge of the Haileybury Hammers goal post. In what only could be called as a close call.

Euro Qualifiers

The Euro Qualifiers are finally over and twenty-four teams have now qualified for the event in the summer that will take place in June and July. The Qualifier were quite intense and every team from all over Europe were great and this even summer will play well. Come back over the next several months to hear about the players.

Other News

Uganda Patonga Proudsticks took on Tanzania Sumbawanga Sunrays. It was very slow to start of with but after what felt like each side had warmed up then the game got going. Seems like neither side was going to let the other score. The odd goal got in from both sides. It was only when Patonga Proudstick seeker got the snitch first as it was a close call as either side could of got it.

Briar McCree is a sixteen year old from Ilvermorny visiting Hogwarts for the International Wizarding Tournament. Briar was born in Canada to Craig and Danielle McCree and grew up moving around the country a lot due to their mother’s work. Briar strives to be an established Magizoologist and to have the chance at discovering a new species or saving an endangered one as well as writing an updated field guide for magical creatures. Briar has a preference for outdoor activities such as being part of the Magical Creatures Club and playing Quadpot. Briar is currently single and looking to date but watch out for those blokes seen lurking around, they might have something to say about them dating.

Seems like you really need to just listen to your heart and spend some time with you to figure out what it is you actually want. Three months is a rather small window of time to move on from one relationship to another, even if it's casually. How long were you with your ex before the two of you broke up? Perhaps you have not taken the proper time to grief your lost relationship which is why you are feeling so uncertain about this new one. Hogwarts Students Prepare for OWLs and NEWTs

Eventide Academy Presents...

The Dramatic Arts Department at Eventide Academy will be hosting open auditions for two plays in the upcoming month.

BREAKING CHAINS - a story of a young witch fighting for her freedom to be a witch against the captivity of religion. Set during the backdrop of the height of Catholicism.

SONNETS OF THE CROWNED HEART - a story of a young prince who must decide between the crown and his heart as he falls in love with his personal guard, set in the backdrop of Medieval England.

Life Hangs in the Balance

In a shocking turn of events, the life of Carman Jones, a prominent auror, now hangs in the balance after a dreadful attack that left her critically injured. However, amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope emerged as Senior Undersecretary Nicola Skadegamutc came to her rescue. Despite the valiant efforts of the Healers at St. Mungo's Hospital, the situation took an unexpected turn with unforeseen complications arising in Carman's care.

The gravity of the situation escalated further when a suspicious individual, disguised as a healer, was observed leaving Carman's room. Within moments of his departure, the heart-wrenching cries of Carman's son echoed through the corridors, accompanied by the ominous sound of the flatline from the heart monitor.

Prompt action was taken by visitor and former Auror, Phoenix Zabinski, who swiftly tracked down the mysterious man identified as Mackenzie Dunamis, a former student of Beauxbatons. The events surrounding her attack serve as a stark reminder of the ever-present dangers faced by those who dedicate their lives to upholding law and order in the wizarding world.

The son of Shi-woo and Sun-hee Chae, Tae-il hails from Seoul, South Korea, where he resides during breaks from school. However, his current home is within the walls of Hogwarts, where he diligently pursues his education.

When asked about his academic pursuits, Tae-il revealed that he is enrolled in all core subjects, including Potions, Herbology, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Additionally, he takes keen interest in Magical Law, hinting at aspirations for a future career in the Wizengamot, the wizarding high court.

I’m proud to have been able to bring my school to victory against so many great Wizarding schools. There’s strengths and weaknesses in each champion, but at least most of us were able to make it to the end. For my fellow champions that had to excuse themselves from the tournament earlier, I would like to say that it was a pleasure to learn from you in small ways to handle the challenges in the tournament. I enjoyed the time we spent together, even if most of the time we had been competing against each other.

In a thrilling finale to the International Wizarding Tournament, champions from around the world faced their toughest challenge yet. For the final task, competitors were presented with the three Deathly Hallows and had to choose one to guide them through a series of daunting trials.

The majority of champions opted for the Cloak of Invisibility, navigating challenges that tested their stealth and cunning. Tasks included sneaking past a bandit camp and outwitting magical guardians.

However, it was an emotional journey for Sutton Bane, who bravely chose the Resurrection Stone. Bane was confronted with personal demons and had to overcome significant challenges to progress.

In the end, all champions faced the Mirror of Erised, where their deepest desires were revealed. Ultimately, it was Wachirawitt Ayutthaya from Mahoutokoro who emerged victorious, demonstrating unwavering determination and skill throughout the tournament.

Winning this tournament means a lot to me. When I first put my name in the Goblet I was planning on being part of the tournament to be challenged, but it became more than that after a while. I wanted to prove to myself that I’d be able to handle any challenges that were thrown at me, and I hit a few setbacks a couple times in the challenges, but I never backed down. I learned that even having a lot of knowledge about spells, magical creatures, and plants might not be enough to get through difficult situations. Sometimes you just have to rely on your personal abilities to get through the challenges, and hope that you have luck on your side. But, overall, winning this tournament means that I can handle myself in difficult and stressful situations.

Life hasn’t changed much, getting praised and congratulated for this type of achievement doesn’t phase me anymore. I’m happy to receive it all, but it doesn’t get to my head like it probably would’ve when I was younger. I don’t have to seek the approval of my parents anymore, so it’s been the same. Having more recognition is fine too, but this tournament isn’t going to be in the spotlight forever and it won’t affect my life in a meaningful way past this year, except for the meanings I found within myself.

I graduate this year, so I’ll be going back to Thailand and hopefully finding a career in the Ministry. Apart from that, I haven’t really thought too far ahead into my future. I’ve learned that living in the present is the greatest gift one could have, so yearning for something too far out of my reach isn’t really my thing anymore. It makes people forget to enjoy what’s right in front of them. I didn’t have my parents around a lot when I was younger, so instead of being upset that I couldn’t see them everyday because we got home at different times, so we were three ships that passed in the night, I would enjoy the time I had when we could hang out with each other. Be present.

Her schedule includes a wide array of magical subjects, including Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Flying, Healing, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. When asked about her favorite subjects, Sena couldn't help but express her love for Care of Magical Creatures, Healing, and Astronomy.

Beyond her studies, Sena is an active member of two Hogwarts clubs: Healing and Care of Magical Creatures. "They're great!" she exclaimed.

Looking ahead, Sena has clear aspirations. "I want to follow a career that I love, get married, and make my family proud," she shared. "I also can't wait to join my big cousins that are graduating this year, as well as the ones that have already graduated, in the real world! I really miss seeing them at school!"

When asked about her future career path, Sena expressed interest in becoming a healer or working with magical creatures like her older sister Dayeun.

As for her personal life, Sena revealed she's not currently seeing anyone special, focusing instead on her studies and future career.

With such determination and passion, Sena Hwang is undoubtedly one to watch as she continues her journey at Hogwarts and beyond.
