CHILDHOOD.
Tarquin had a rather unique childhood. He and his twin brother grew up in the United Dragon Reserve in Scotland. Their mother is a famous dragonologist who has worked there since before he was born. From the time he was two, he’s been flying. His mother or one of the other Reserve staff would let him ride with them for routine daily observations. Due to his upbringing, he is familiar with every species of dragon there is. Although, like his mother his favorite is the Hebridean Black. The family almost has a pet Hebridean Black, Ivantie, a dragon that her mother helped hatch and has attached itself to the family.
His father is an abusive drunk that was out of his mother’s life before she even knew she was pregnant. This has not stopped the man from trying to get custody and visitation with the boys. The last time he was allowed around Quin or Lo was the day he attempted to kill their mother. They had come in from feeding Ivantie and their father hit her from behind with a binding curse. He then proceeded to try to suffocate her with a pillow. Although only six, the boys attacked their father in an attempt to save their mother. He beath both of them severely but the commotion from the house and Ivantie’s attempts to get through the barrier to the homes was enough to bring several other Reserve staff to the scene in order to stop the attack. From then on, anyone who tried to date their mother had to go through them and Ivantie. Most failed the Ivantie test as having a dragon breathe down your neck can be rather unnerving.
Although pureblood and having displayed magical tendencies from early on, he and his twin were sent to a Muggle elementary school so they could socialize with children their own age as there were seldom children living at the Reserve. Since their mother has always associated with Muggles as well as witches and wizards, the boys know as much about Muggle society as they do about Wizard society. Having been brought up in both worlds, they have no sense of blood stigma and could care less what anyone’s lineage is.
SCHOOL YEARS.
Tarquin was thrilled to get his letter. He was looking forward to meeting more wizards of his own age as well as hopefully making the quidditch team. Being small and fast, he is typically placed as seeker when playing with the staff at the Reserve, but he really wants to be a beater. Maybe when he gets a bit bigger, if he can make the house team at all. He is good, at least that is what he’s told at the Reserve, but he really hasn’t had much chance to play against others his age.
He and Lorcan thought they would be sorted into the same house, as they were identical twins. Their mother couldn’t tell them much about the sorting process as she had gone to Durmstrang. They had fostered that belief for the rest of the time before school started, going back and forth on what quidditch position they wanted to play, and who would eventually end up as Prefect and head boy. The competitiveness between the two was rivaled only by their protectiveness of each other. They may be the first to beat each other into an unconscious state, but heaven help anyone else who even looked at them cross-eyed.
He slowly settled into the routine of the castle, flying being one of his favorite classes. How cool was it that his favorite quidditch player ever was teaching the class? He took it because it was required, not that he’d needed any instruction on flying. Well not basic anyway. He figured he’d continue to take the class so he could get some extra flying time, even if It was just to solidify the basics. If he’d learned anything zooming around the Reserve, it was that you could never forget the basics, especially when a dragon was breathing fire at you.

RP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
Tarquin slips into the Great Hall with all the other first years and waits impatiently to be called. Although he is older than his brother, his brother’s name comes before his so Lorcan went first. Lorcan was sorted into Gryffindor. That took some of the excitement out of the process for Quin as he assumed that since they were twins, they would be in the same house. When his name was called, he approached the stool and sat confidently, ready to hear the hat call out Gryffindor like it had for his brother.
The hat just sat there for several minutes hmmming in his head. ”Yes, yes your brother is Gryffindor, that is for sure. But you… you are different.” He was quiet again for a few moments, but Quin felt like it was hours. He was starting to wonder what others would think. Then finally the hat spoke. ”Ravenclaw”
Quin stood and started towards the Ravenclaw table which was cheering loudly. He locked eyes with his brother. They both simultaneously shrugged and smirked. “See you on the Pitch.” He mouthed to his brother as he took his seat at the Ravenclaw table. They were best friends, they always would be, but they were their fiercest competition as well. As he took a seat at the Ravenclaw table he wondered if the Sorting Hat did it intentionally, or if they really were more different than anyone seemed to think.
