CHILDHOOD. | Storm was born to Andrei Christian and Joanna Maria Drogos in a small wizarding village in Romania. She showed a propensity for magic from early on and was always at her grandmother’s side learning numerology and arithmancy from the time she was old enough to understand. At five her love for exotic animals was sparked by a trip to her father’s work where she got to watch a horned serpent hatch from its egg. From then on, she would spend every day she could at the Ministry with her father learning about all the different magical animals and how to care for them. Storm found her passion at the age of seven when she got to visit the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary with her father. The sanctuary had just brought in a juvenal Romanian Longhorn that had been confiscated from a wizarding family. As it was very young and used to being around wizards it was somewhat docile around humans. She was allowed to help feed it and pet it but did learn very quickly that while they may seem docile or tame, they most certainly are wild creatures that need to be respected. One of the workers accidentally scared it while it was feeding and ended up with third degree burns on his legs. Evern since then she was passionate about dragons and read any and every book she could get her hands on about them. Wizard and muggle alike. Her favorite dragon species is the Hebridean black, with its dark black scales, tail tipped with an arrow shaped spike and vivid purple eyes. Strangers who visited their home often thought she had a brother when they saw her room as it was decorated with models of dragons she had built herself. |
SCHOOL YEARS. | Storm was accepted at Durmstrang as a day student at the age of nine. She didn’t like school at first as she would rather spend her days with her father dealing with magical creatures. However, then she was introduced to a care of magical creatures class as well as being introduced to the dark arts and she took to both like a duck to water. Granted she had to wait until she was older to actually start learning the dark arts, but the promise of being able to study them with high enough grades, made her an excellent student. Her focus in school was anything surrounding the care of dragons, including potions and herbology. While not relevant to the care of dragons, she dove into and mastered the practice of the dark arts figuring it could be helpful in dealing with poachers and others that might want to harm magical creatures. Durning her time at Durmstrang she played quidditch, her preferred position was seeker, but she was relatively decent at any position she was tossed into. She enjoyed the freedom of flying, but her passion remained dragons. The spring of her sixth year a dragonologist from the Romanian sanctuary brought a dragon egg for the students to care for until it hatched. While the dragonlogist was there, Storm spent as much time with her as possible learning all she could about what working with dragons on a day-to-day basis was like and what classes she needed to take in order to become a dragonologist. While the dragonologist was not there when the egg started to hatch two weeks early, Storm was. Unfortunately the dragon got stuck in its egg. However, having read enough about dragons, Storm was able to successfully free it. With the baby hatched, the dragonlogist returned the baby to the reserve. After letting the director of the reserve know what Storm had done, she was offered a summer internship at the reserve which she gladly accepted. She spent the next few summers working at the reserve and in her eighth year, she was sent a dragon egg to take back to the school to supervise the students’ care of it. |
ADULDHOOD. | By her 8th year Storm was scouted for a professional team, but she declined the opportunity to further study and work with dragons. After graduation she returned to Romania and took on an internship position with the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary where she spent the first five years of her career. After her internship ended, she took a position with a French Reserve to help with teaching at the museum. It was during this time that she met Adami. The two became close and married after only a year of being together. Shortly after their marriage, her position with the French Reserve and another position were consolidated and she found herself looking for another position. This is when she was offered a position working with Hebridean Blacks with the United Dragon Reserve in Scotland. After talking it over with Adami, the couple moved to Scotland. Adami took a position with the Ministry of Magic and worked out of a regional office near the reserve. After a couple of years of working as an Auror, he started drinking in the evenings with his friends from work and would come home drunk and belligerent. Two years later, after his rantings became physical and he assaulted her, Stom left him and filed for divorce. She filed a protective order with the Ministry of Magic against Adami which ended in him being terminated. Having nowhere to go in Scotland, he returned to his family in France. Three months after she left Storm realized she was pregnant by him. With his abusive nature, she refused to tell him about the twins and never acknowledged him as the father on their birth certificate. He somehow found out about the boys and started harassing her, seeking at least shared custody. However, the couple of times she allowed him to visit with the boys, it would end up with him striking one of them. She promptly ended his ability to see them and took out protective orders to keep him away from the duo who she nicknamed Thunder and Lightning as they were proving to be just as mischievous and energetic as she had always been. She is currently still working at the Dragon Reserve in Scotland with her boys growing up with dragons and around other magical creatures. As a result of her travels, Storm and the boys are fluent in Romanian, Norwegian, French, English and Scottish. She has several papers and books on the subjects of dragons published and translated throughout the world. |

Storm settled into her chair with a book on the unforgivable curses, studying for the next days’ lecture. She looked at the clock, it was nearing ten. The other student with her was dozing, which drove Storm crazy as their whole purpose for being there was to watch over the egg. The dragon was going to hatch soon, although it was not supposed to hatch for another two weeks, so that might be why other students laxed on their duties, setting alarms to tend to the fires instead of maintaining vigilance.
Setting the book down for a moment she stood and stretched. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw the egg shake. She stared at it for several moments until she laughed at herself for letting her imagination run away with her. She sat back down and picked up the book when the egg shook again. This time she saw it clear as day. She moved to kneel by the egg, watching it intently until it shook a third time.
“Marcus, Marcus wake up.” She hissed, pushing the fifth year nearly out of his chair.
“Get off. I’m tired.”
“Then don’t take the night shift next time, prost. Just get over here, it’s moving.”1
“You had too much wine with dinner, it’s not supposed to hatch…” he stopped mid-sentence as the egg shook again.
He quietly joined Storm next to the egg and the two watched it intently for the next half hour before a tiny crack appeared in the egg. “Go get Professor Angston.” Storm told the younger student and after a few moments of demanding and finally pulling out the fact she was in fact a year ahead of him, he reluctantly left to go wake their care of magical creatures professor. As luck would have it, the dragonologist was back at the reserve dealing with another emergency.
The dragon started to peck at the shell to break his way out but was only able to poke a hole in it the size of a galleon. It struggled for nearly thirty minutes and still Marcus had not returned with the professor. However, it would seem he had stopped to wake some of their other classmates as a few of them wandered into the room to watch. The dragon continued to struggle for another thirty minutes or so without any progress, or the arrival of the professor.
Storm sighed; she was concerned that the egg might be too hard for the dragon to break. That happened sometimes when the conditions surrounding it being laid and the temperature fluctuations during the incubation period were not ideal. In the wild, the mother would break the shell and free the baby. However, they were in the dungeons of a castle and there was no mother dragon around. Storm was not sure what to do, the information on this type of occurrence had never mentioned how long to let the baby attempt to break out for before you intervened. Those stories she’d read were only anecdotal, not instructional.
She was the only one concerned with the situation, as the other students were growing bored with waiting. Most heading back to their dorms with a We’ll see it in the morning. Frustrated, Storm turned to one of the other girls in the class. “Gabriella, go get Professor Angston, something isn’t right.” The girl huffed but disappeared from the room, leaving Storm along with a second year student that somehow had gotten rushed along in the crowd. He’d be of no use, and of course he’d be the only one to stay.
The dragon had curled up in the bottom of the shell and seemed to be panting. Right They had a cage of rats to feed it in the corner because it would need to eat within a few minutes of it coming out of its shell, and it had already been an hour since it had started. Frowning, Storm looked at the clock, then at the door. Her head told her to wait for their professor. But her gut told her they didn’t have that amount of time. Angston would want to dress and appear proper before he turned up since no one but her viewed this as an emergency.
“Um.. you…kid… get the cage from the corner please.” She said, turning her attention to the egg and making up her mind to do what her gut was telling her to. She picked up her wand then shook her head and placed it back on the table. She knew several spells that would crack the egg but did not know if they would injure the dragon. Instead, she started at the hole the dragon had made and began to slowly, carefully break away the shell. After a few moments the dragon lifted its head and began to watch her. It followed every movement of her hands with its intense purple gaze. As the shell began to come away, Storm became more and more excited, this was most certainly a Hebridean Black. As the hole widened to the point the dragon could stick its head out, it stretched up and tried to bite the shell, nipping her in the process. Swearing, she remembered she had dragon hide gloves in her room. Though she’d never anticipated needing to help a dragon out of its shell, so never thought to have gloves or anything else on hand.
The dragon curled up again and she resumed breaking away the shell, piece by piece until the top right quarter was open wide enough that the dragon could make its way out. The dragon tentatively stepped out of the shell, wobbling a little on the stone floor. The second year moved, and the dragon’s head snapped around and it hissed at the boy, shooting sparks and a steam of thick black smoke at him. The boy jumped and backed towards the door.
“Hey there you.” Storm said softly. The dragon turned its head from the boy to her. It looked at her and cocked its head to the side. “That’s right, over here. I’ve got breakfast for you.” She said as she slowly leaned towards the dragon and the cage the boy had left just out of her reach. She pulled the cage slowly and the dragon took a couple of steps backwards. “It’s okay Ivantie, look it’s food.” She pulled a rat out by the tail and held it out towards the dragon who sniffed, took a step forward, then engulfed the rat in a ball of flame before snatching it and swallowing it.
Storm grabbed her wand “Aqua Eructo” she said, using the stream of water to extinguish the sleeve of her uniform. Although her arm stung from the burn, she would deal with that later, when this baby was taken care of. She grabbed another rat from the cage and half placed, half tossed it in front of the dragon. Ivantie, her name for the baby, scorched the rat and swallowed it. She repeated this three more times with the same results. The final time she released a rat Ivantie looked at it but turned and went over to the fireplace, curling up beside the hearth.
