When Gabriela was young, she was raised as an only child. All the attention was focused on her, and she basked in the attention her parents had given her for all the years before the unfortunate death of her mother when she was almost eleven years old. Something changed in her father after that, she could sense it, but he hid it well until she had gotten her letter inviting her to study at Hogwarts. He started to become a little distance since the eighth of August until the day Gabi had to leave her home to go to her new school. Her first year had gone pretty smoothly, her father sent her a letter once a week for the beginning and then slowly it became every other week to every month. He'd even told her not to come back home for the Winter break that scared her a little bit wondering what was happening at home, but he reassured her that everything was alright. Gabriela decided to believe him even though there was something in the back of her mind that was nagging at her. Something wasn't right, but her father wasn't telling her.

It was that summer that she came home that she found out why her father had been so distant with her after a while, he'd been wondering how to break it to her that he'd married someone new and they adopted another girl. Gabriela probably would have been happy and excited to have had a new sister if she'd been told ahead of time, but she was just surprised with so many changes in her life that she wasn't sure she could handle it or if any eleven would be able to handle it all at once. Her father hadn't even waited a full year after her mother had passed away to marry someone else, he didn't even think to tell his own daughter about the new develops and expected her to find this as an amazing surprise that was waiting for her? Not only that, but his attention were completely on his new wife and Phoebe, the adopted daughter they had decided to bring into the family without telling Gabi, either. How was she supposed to be happy about these new developments if they just left the young Slytherin feeling all alone?

Since the new marriage and adoption of the other girl, Gabriela's attitude changed drastically to cope with everything. She didn't go easy on her father either, even when he tried to apologize to her. The truth was that she reminded him of his late wife, and he couldn't stand being around her alone anymore. He didn't have to continue to put up this act when he was around the other members of the family were around. She'd overheard his conversation with the current wife that Gabi has yet to acknowledge as her mother, even though it's been almost four years since she became part of the Sanchez family and the Amadori and Sanchez's became one big family. She was alone and nothing was going to change that, maybe her friends at Hogwarts, but they couldn't be with her all the time and she wouldn't want to bring them to her house in the summer in fear of her father being an absolute butthead towards the people she was actually close with.

For whatever reason Elizabeth was forced to go to this ridiculous ball, maybe a year ago she would’ve actually enjoyed such a party, but in this situation it wasn’t the most entertaining. The blonde hadn’t even tried to dress up to impress this time, her red dress was plain. If it wasn’t for the boldness of the color, she doubted anyone would notice her walking into the Great Hall. Maybe she was wrong and just believed she could walk through the school without being noticed, but she could make it so she wasn’t recognizable if she wanted to, but what was the purpose of that now? She thought the reason she had been left behind had been to do something for her father, but he didn’t send her a letter or anything. It must’ve been a punishment or something so she wouldn’t be home for the holidays or maybe her mother had interfered again?

Whatever the reason was for her staying at the school, Elizabeth was deeply grateful for the break from everything she had to do at home. While it still felt like both a blessing and curse to be stuck at the school for the holidays, she shouldn’t be stuck on that when there was a party going on. The blonde had stopped by the drink table to grab a glass of punch before walking off to the side of the room. Dancing. That’s what these parties were all about and Lizzie was not someone that would get up and dancing in front of a crowd. What a ridiculous idea? She shouldn’t have even thought about coming to the ball. There was no point.

As the blonde turned to leave, her eyes landed on someone she didn’t recall from any previous years. He was far too old to be a first year, so her guess was that he was a transfer student. Elizabeth glanced at his outfit. He was different from all the stuffy pureblood students at the school, that was a given from the way he dressed to this formal event. Lizzie looked away and moved to walk past him. New kid or not, she wasn’t in the mood to entertain these festivities anymore. She might as well go back to her dorm room and settle in for the night.
