CHILDHOOD: In July of 2004, Frances was born to Irene Barker. Her second child. He was doted on by his older brother as a baby and spoiled with love and affection. Frances’ life was complete bliss for a little baby. He was, naturally, oblivious to the realities of his birth and the lifestyle his mother had. Fortunately, he had Kevin to shield him from a lot of it. Frances lived in the living room of their single bedroom apartment but he was none the wiser since he had nothing to compare their life to.

Frances became a big brother to the most annoying person in the entire world when he was three years old. He liked the idea of having another kid around but as soon as Georgie began crying he didn’t like having a baby anymore. Frances definitely took measures to get rid of his little brother like sticking him between the couch cushions and sitting on. Life continued on like that as Frances grew up. Georgie bothered him and Kevin took on the role of their parent as well as their older brother.

When Frances was four years old, his mother died. A lot of people don’t think he remembers much about her but he remembers enough to know that she slept a lot throughout the day and was gone a lot when he woke in the night. He remembers waking up scared and crawling onto the couch with Kevin at night because he heard weird noises coming from her bedroom. And he remembers her getting sick and visiting the hospital while she was dying. He remembers more than people think and he doesn’t really miss her.

Kevin enrolled Frances in muggle school. Frances believes it was mostly because he couldn’t be home to watch his brothers all the time and it was mandatory that kids went to school. Besides, unlike Kevin, Frances had not shown any signs of being magical. Also, when he was at home, Frances was mostly content to just lay on the couch and watch cartoons which his brother expressed was not healthy for him. It didn’t change much as he got older either. He still preferred to be a home body and do nothing than being forced to socialize.

This changed a bit when he was around ten years old and magic kept exploding out of him during class and he kept getting detention to the point he was kicked out of muggle school. That didn’t matter. Kevin wasn’t too worried. Mad, definitely, but not worried. He talked about it being a sign that Frances was a wizard as well and soon enough, his Hogwarts letter came.


SCHOOL YEARS: Frances was sorted into Slytherin – though he’s still not sure why that house was picked for him. Perhaps there was something dark in his mind the sorting hat saw and Slytherin would help him achieve it. He didn’t care. The incidents from his muggle school were still with him and Frances’ only goal was to have attention on him. He wasn’t concerned if it was good or bad and it was easier to get negative attention than praise. Praise took too much effort. He started developing a reputation as being a bit of a bad boy as he progressed through second and third year and didn’t have much care to do anything to great with himself but get by with basic passing grades, a lot of friends (or followers who admired his bad boy behaviours and his lack of regard for much). Or maybe people saw him as carefree without worries and wanted to be surrounded by that sort of personality to bring them out of their shells. Who knew! Second year was a breeze. He didn't worry, even as the letters came more and more from Kevin who did worry about the state of the world.

Third year, things changed. The world was in danger. Creatures and muggleborns were disappearing. Somehow, Frances was not among those who went missing. Perhaps because he didn't bother talking about his blood status. And he knew Kevin refused to list him on the registry, or Georgie but no one even knew if Georgie had magic. Kevin's disregard for the rules likely saved them all some trouble but the school year sucked watching "friends" disappear and being forced to move out of Slytherin, even if it was dreary in there.

Into his fourth year, Frances was appalled by Georgie arriving and Kevin following him. His days of slacking off were over with big brother hovering over his shoulder and his reputation was on the line with Georgie around calling him Fran or Franny - a name he absolutely hates - and just being a royal pain in his arse.


ADULTHOOD: N/A

Since he was still getting his feet wet here at Hogwarts, Kevin wasn’t entirely comfortable around everyone. A Valentine’s Ball was a great excuse to maybe make a few more connections outside of being the school counsellor. Sometimes people assumed that his patients rubbed off on him and that was the reason for his own minor quirks. Really, it had nothing to do with his patients and everything to do with his dearly departed mother who had messed him up as a child. Water under the bridge. Kevin wasn’t thinking about that at the moment.

He’d just excused himself from his date, he’d asked co-worker Elena Ambroise, to join him for the evening. She was kind and he felt she would make the evening more pleasant. He had excused himself to use the facilities and was sidetracked by grabbing the hand of his younger brother, Frances, who was about to toss a donut at his even younger brother, Georgie. “Not here, guys. Save the shenanigans for home.” Coming to Hogwarts had been the best, and worst idea Kevin had made. The students needed him. Some of the staff needed him. And he needed to keep a closer eye on his brothers. Oh, but Frances and Georgie were a handful.

Since the ball was open for everyone, Kevin was hoping Auberon might attend. They hadn’t had a good catch up since he had left St. Mungo’s to work at Hogwarts.

He left his brothers, once they were put back in line, and knew Georgie was making faces behind his back. Next, he approached Professor Kohler with a welcoming smile. “I seemed to have misplaced my date. Have you seen Elena?”
