11 August 16, 2007 Student Slytherin/First year Pureblood Hogwarts | PERSONALITY: Hina is a performer at her core. She is great at reading people, and knows how to entertain a crowd. Confident and friendly, she makes friends easily, and loves to make people feel valued/important. Hina is an intuitive young lady, and has a tendency to alter her behaviour to suit who she is with. She uses her skill at reading people to subtly make herself as likeable to them as possible- is someone more quiet and reserved? Hina will match their energy and speak in soft tones. Are they arrogant and self centered? Hina will appeal to their ego and exude confidence around them. It is something that she often doesn't even realise she is doing- a habit of not only being born into a pureblood family where she is always expected to be perfect, but also as someone who has been performing since she could walk, and is used to putting on a show. Due to pressure from her mother and status to be perfect- thin, composed, kind, attractive, Hina is stuck between the paradox of genuinely enjoying life and who she is as a person, whilst simultaneously feeling like she needs to put on a performance and manipulate those around her into liking her. Academically, Hina thrives in creative, intuitive subjects where she can dream and go with her guts to make things happen. She is an artist at heart that loves to create, and doesn't do well with structure and theory. Subjects such as Potions and History of Magic are a struggle for her, and the only way that one might convince her to actually apply herself in these areas is by appealing to her competitive side and dangling the risk of losing in front of her. As well as Tahitian dance, Hina has also been tutored in the playing of the vivo, the Tahitian nose flute. Whilst she uses dance to express herself when she is happy, she often plays the nose flute when she is upset or stressed. It's melancholy sound gives life to the negative emotions she feels she cannot express. ASPIRATION: From the time she was young, Hina has always wanted to be a dancer, like her mother. She dreams of traveling the world and sharing her culture, performing on world class stages and standing ovations. Outside of dance, Hina wants to live. She wants to meet new people. Learn new magic. Experience new things. She is a determined girl that doesn't believe in her limitations, to the point of almost arrogance. CHILDHOOD. | Hina was born on the island of Tahiti, in the South Pacific. As such, her native tongues were Tahitian and French; she did not learn English until she moved to London. Although an arranged marriage, her parents developed feelings along the way. Both coming from noble Polynesian pureblood families, as well as being respected cultural leaders on their island, a lot of expectation was placed on Hina from a young age. In early childhood, although an only child, Hina never felt alone. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child", and there was always an aunty, cousin or friend around to keep Hina company. She was doted on, and both her families inheritance, as well as the fact that both of her parents led respectable careers, ensured that Hina never went without nor wanted for anything. Her mother Terehe had Hina dancing as soon as she could walk. Terehe herself was a famed Tahitian dancer that had traveled the world, and she wished the same for her daughter. She was a tough teacher, but luckily, Hina never complained- she loved Tahitian dance just as much as her mother did. However, as Hina started to grow a bit older, the expectations her mother placed on her went beyond simply dancing well; she had to stay thin, make sure she looked good, get along with everyone well and never express any negative feelings that she had. She felt the pressure of having to appear perfect at all times, and not fully let her guard down around anyone, lest they see her flaws. This caused their relationship to grow a bit more strained as Hina continued to grow. The one continuity through it all was that no matter what, they always danced together. Hina's father was involved in politics, and travelled often for work. He would mostly travel to Europe and the UK as a Pacific ambassador. When Hina was 9, her father Mana got a job as a foreign ambassador at the Ministry of Magic, and the three of them relocated to London. The move was hard for Hina- prior to moving, her English was very basic, and her parents had to hire a private tutor to help her catch up. In spite of this, she still struggles with English, and has not quite mastered the language. Hina gets homesick often, and despises the cold dreary weather of London. Although they get to visit regularly, it is simply not the same. She misses her community, her culture, her island. The one refuge for Hina after moving is the Tahitian dance studio her mother opened upon arriving. Receiving her Hogwarts letter filled Hina with excitement- a new adventure! New friendships, experiences, and more! Hina decided to make the most of the new opportunity, and create a new community to help her fill the whole left by moving away from her island. |

Although it was finally spring, and the weather had warmed significantly, Hina still trudged around in her winter gear- a beanie, scarf, and oversized coat protecting her from that lingering nip. Hogwarts was cold. Too cold. She wanted to visit home. And not their house in London, her true home in the Pacific.
Shivering as a gusty of wind sent chills through her arms, the young girl dug her hands into her pockets and let her legs carry her along, no particular destination in mind. Eventually, she found herself by the lake, one of her favourite places settling down over the dock, she let her legs dangle over the frigid lake, not bothering to remove her shoes. It was too cold for that. She couldn't wait until Summer, when it would be warm enough that she may just brave the cold temperatures of the lake and jump in. She did love to swim, after all.
Sighing, Hina slowly relaxed and let her gaze wander over the scenery. A pretty picture to look at. The young Slytherin slowly eased herself back until she was lying down, feet still dangling over the edge of the dock, and let her eyes drift shut. Listening to the gently lapping of water around her, and the soft rustling of leaves in the breeze, she could almost imagine that she was back in the islands.
