16 August, 31st STUDENT Hogwarts/Ravenclaw/6th UNKNOWN Highland, Scotland
| PERSONALITY:
Laith is brilliant. Some times too brilliant. He has a knack for learning and having grown up around odd adults, who were still doing some growing themselves means he’s independence. He’s definitely loved and cared for at home but he takes care of himself. His need to be independent has made schooling hard for him. Authorities and rules feel weird when he grew up in a shop, who’s only mantra was ‘You can’t make new things if you don’t break old things”.
He’s a typically teenager, testing his boundaries. What Laith can’t cleverly get away with he’ll charm his way out of. On a deeper level one of Laith’s biggest drivers is empathy. He’s always trying to be whatever people need. Always thinking one step ahead so that he can be prepared if something goes wrong. Though he would never admit it he secretly worries that if he’s not useful people wont need him around. Thats why he’s always so easy going. Like his nickname, he’s truly a rook. He’s versatile, strong, stable and can maneuver between offense and defense.
ASPIRATION: To take over the shop he grew up in. Maybe turn it into something bigger than basic wizarding remedies. If it were up to him they’d be developing potions new and better that helped not only basic wizards and creatures with abilities. Everything that's out now are the same old remedies they’ve been using for centuries.
| LIKES: - Tea - Malicious compliance - Making new potions - Sleeping - Being the ‘fake’ life of the party.
DISLIKES: - Large crowds - Small talk - Chocolate - Wet socks - Bread ends |

CHILDHOOD. | As much as Laith would like to say he grew up having the typical sad orphan upbringing it just simple wasn’t true. Yes, he’s been left in a park as a newborn. And yes, he’d been named after the two cross streets he’d been found on, Laith and Park. But his life had been anything but awful. Sure, there’d been a quick stint where he’d been passed from home to home but once Laith had phased out of the cute adoptable baby stage he was taken in by a guild of potioneers, who took his care as serious as they took their craft. He owed that life changing moment to Holly, A sweet burned hair woman, who’d seen him making fake potions in the mud while dropping off an order at the orphanage.
After that day Laith spent most of his adolescence puttering around an apothecary called ‘The Wounded Duck’, with a bunch of odd characters he’d grown to call family. By eight years old he could pull and dry any ingredients in his sleep. By ten he was allowed to drop off potion parcels to near by costumers. And when he wasn’t doing either of those things, Mich, the herbalist, had him reading and writing so well he’d been asked to help the kids back at the orphanage.
The only bad memory Laith remembered was the day Holly, the apothecary clerk told him he’d be leaving their small shop to go to school. Honestly he hadn’t taken it well and didn’t see the point. He spent late night with Roth preparing ingredients and early mornings with Holly packaging orders. He was practically an apprentice. What could school teach him that he hadn’t or couldn’t lean from the guild at the apothecary?

SCHOOL YEARS. | Laith was not excited about his first year at Hogwarts, nor any other. While he’s rather smart school felt a little playacting when he could be back at the shop learning real words skills. His first year was rough. He spent half the year writing home to Holly in hopes she’s come get him. She didn’t. His second year was better! That was the year he let all the frogs from transfigurations class lose. He’d done it out of pity for the frogs but he’d made friends. For weeks frogs could be heard calling in the middle of the night. His fellow classmates had start calling him the ‘frog kid. He’d received detention for his little revelation, but it had been worth it. Every since then he’d never had trouble making friends. Most people spoke to him first asking him why he’d done it or if he’d be willing to do it again.
Laith is in his 6th year now and while they don’t call him the ‘frog kid’ any more he still manages to find trouble. The only different now is he’s really good and finding loopholes him the castle rules. His defense against the arts professor jokes that if his potions dreams don’t work out he should consider working for the ministry as a defense lawyer.

New city, new country. Ever few decades Roth made a point to switch things up. Both for his sanity and for the glaringly obvious. He was old. Not biblical old but he’d technically he’d been around long enough to see a few plague in his lifetime. And...he’d likely see more. That was his punishment.
With a sigh that could have summed up all the ages for him, Roth stepped out of his apartment. As refreshing as ’New City, new country’ vibe was it did require him to do a few mundane things, like shopping. Luckily for him the store was only a few blocks away.
With a ring of a bell, Roth found himself inside a store that both had groceries and every other thing a person could think of. Were they always this big? He felt like he’d stepped into the World’s Fair. How could so many people need this many things? Was that a string of flashlights next to a basket of garlic? He frowned and weaved his way down one of the lesser occupied aisles.
Dragging a hand over his light stubbed chin he weigh his options amongst the teas. “Cheese and chamomile…dear god?” He turned the tea tin over in his free hand as he skimmed for something less gross. What happened to the good old days of simple flavors? “Mint, rhubarb and chia tea.” The wrinkle between his brow deepened. A minty, fruity, tea, tea? He translated to himself. He’d never understand how humans came and went in what he considered a blink of an eye and still manage to destroy perfectly good things like tea.
