FIFTEEN JANURAY 2ND, 2004 STUDENT BEAUXBATONS ACADEMY HALF-BLOOD SAINT-TROPEZ, FRANCE
| PERSONALITY: Gwen is artistic, compassionate, decisive and determined. Gwen has strong empath tendencies. She takes on the emotions of people around her, which can be both a strength and a weakness. At times she might experience sudden, overwhelming emotions when in public, which has often made her withdraw and isolate a little bit. Her mother calls her a walking lie detector.
ASPIRATION: Gwen was raised by two free spirited people who managed to make a good life doing what they loved-- not everyone is as lucky.
Because of this, Gwen can't imagine her life without art, so pursuing a career as a Magical Artist, just like her mother, seemed like a given. She could create enchanted paintings, sculptures, or even design magical items...
Gwen's empathetic nature could also make her an excellent magical healer, another path she's considered...

CHILDHOOD. | Gwendolyn Shaw was born and raised in the picturesque coastal town of Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera, which was nothing short of idyllic. The town's maritime history and artistic spirit infused her daily life with a sense of wonder and creativity, only reinforced by being the only child of not one, but two artists.
Gwen's childhood was a blend of warm sun-kissed days and balmy, starlit nights. Gwen's family often spent weekends sailing along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, exploring hidden coves, and indulging in the best seafood at quaint seaside bistros. Her upbringing paved the way for her to develop her own creative talents. Her early years in this coastal paradise instilled in her a spirit of adventure and a passion for embracing the beauty of life.
Gwen’s mother was born in Paris and has a renowned career within the magical community as a sought after artist famous for her detailed animated portrait paintings. She’s explored art in all forms and across many countries, which is how she met her husband. Gwen’s father is a photographer from the UK, not known for much on a high-class level, but he takes wonderful portraits and enjoys his work. Her parents met at a gallery opening in New York City.
Because her mom is a witch and her dad a muggle, Gwen has always felt comfortable enough in both worlds. Gwen was born and raised in France, but spent much of her childhood years visiting England where her father's family resides.
Gwen was absolutely thrilled when she was officially enrolled in Beauxbatons Academy.
|
SCHOOL YEARS. | Attending Beauxbatons was a momentous occasion not only for young Gwen but also for her parents, as she was officially following in the footsteps of her mother, who had once walked the same halls of the incredibly beautiful magical institution.
Her father had hoped she might attend school in England, as he had, but her mother knew in her heart Beauxbatons was the path for Gwen.
Beauxbatons a magnificent château, a breathtaking marvel nestled amidst the lush hills of southern France... Gwen was enchanted the first time she arrived, giddy almost, to be surrounded by so many fellow students wearing those signature blue uniforms. Gwen had been placed into the Papillonlisse house. A group known for their kindness, good nature, talent in the arts, and thoughtful of all others around them.
Despite her initial enthusiasm, Gwendolyn soon realized that her empathetic nature, while a gift, also posed a challenge in a school filled with students. Being an empath, she couldn't help but feel the intense emotions of those around her, and it sometimes became overwhelming.
Gwen struggled to filter out the emotional noise. The joy, excitement, anxiety, anger or sometimes even sadness of her fellow students washed over her like a tidal wave. It was hard for her to maintain her own emotional balance amidst the constant influx.
Social interactions were affected as well as Gwen often found herself seeking solitude in the school's gardens or the quiet corners of the library. Through meditation, mindfulness practices, and utilizing her art, she learned to create emotional boundaries and protect herself from being overwhelmed.
While her empathetic nature initially posed challenges, it also is one of her greatest strengths, allowing her to connect with others on a deep and profound level. When Gwen made friends she made them for life, or at least she tried to.

HERERP SAMPLE (200 words min.)
Gwendolyn had spent the better part of the afternoon attempting to replicate her mother's personal secret incantations to affix life into art. Her mother, Eloise Boucher, is famous for her animated portrait paintings. Gwen seldom tried to apply the same magics to her own charcoal art, but she was feeling particularly inspired lately.
She'd been working on her Black Lake drawing since her time spent there and was currently attempting to bring forth from the depths of the shaded lake a little grindylow, to recapture a particular moment in time. But instead of breaking the surface briefly and returning to the darkness it kept hopping all over the parchment in a mocking manner. Frustrated Gwen tucked it back into her sketchbook and her eyes slid over to the clock. "Merde!" She cursed under her breath before shoving her things away and then flinging her small crossbody bag over her shoulder and rushing off.
Gwen would be lying to herself if she didn't admit that her initial interaction with that mysterious boy hadn't intrigued her. There was something innately compelling about him and the way he held himself.
Admittedly, Gwen was surprised by the follow-through of his' invitation. What could he possibly want to show her? She found herself moving a brisk walk, just shy of a jog, through the corridors. She'd only be a few minutes late to the courtyard but she hated that. She detested being late to things. Would he still be there? Might he be cross at her tardiness, even if it's just a minute or two?
Approaching the courtyard she felt her body exhale in relief at the sight of him, waiting for her. Okay, she hadn't completely buggered it, just yet. She comes to a stop just in front of him and flashes what she hopes is a clear, apologetic smile, and pushes her hair away from her eyes. "Hello." She says, suddenly feeling a little... what embarrassed? Nervous? Excited?
